Henry's obit
I made it to the library today and I looked at Henry's obit and the Masonic fuenral announcement. I didn't copy them, as I knew you already had them. But the Masonic references made me certain that he is indeed at Glendale. Glendale was the preferred cemetery of those involved with the Masons, and even had its own Masonic section. Also, all of his family are buried there, including those who pre-deceased him. He would not have been at Spicer or Middlebury as those were pretty much unused by 1855, and Mount Hope was well outside city limits at that point, used mainly for residents of Coventry Twp.

You should type the obits into the memorial - they would make a nice addition.

Oh also - I declined the edit on William since we know for certain from the obit that the burial year was wrong.

RE: 1855
Okay - I have copied it over.

I do still have quite a big list of obits to look up, if I ever make it back over to the library. I have Henry's included. This weekend is supposed to be nice, so will probably be doing yard-work and hiking, and maybe some photographing at Glendale. I'll probably save the library for a rainy weekend.

RE: 1855
I will go add in in now. BTW, it wouldn't be the "Beacon Journal" - probably the Summit Beacon at that point.

Re: William - did you want me to copy the obit into the bio? Site rules prohibits posting obits as photos. I really don't mind the small ones and I've never asked anyone to remove one, but I do like to try and stay within the site rules. So if you want me to copy the obit in the bio, and then remove the photo just let me know. I do think the older obits, especially the ones with poetry, look very nice typed into the bio area.

Did you locate the obit for Henry?

Regarding the microfilm reels of the newspaper - there are two sets. I always make the mistake of using the wrong set and then having to switch over to find the obit I want. :(

RE: 1855
Sorry - I'm dense sometimes. I figured out afterward what you meant. I was thinking that you found an 'unknown' with that death date, and I went looking thru the records to locate the person. I did notice that there were very few burials listed for 1855. There are approximately 85 obits listed for 1855 in the newspaper; not counting children I would guess that would be maybe half of the deaths in Akron that year. The only non-sectarian cemeteries available in the area at the time were Glendale, Middlebury, Spicer and Mt. Hope. Since the Bangs family had already had some burials there, he should be at Glendale. The other three seem very unlikely. I know that not all burials are entered, I have found plenty of stones for folks who are pre-1891 and not listed in either book. We know the section and lot where his parents ended up, I bet there are fallen stones. A little archeological work might be necessary. :)

I found the one you were referring to, but that was Orlando Hall - he was who he was supposed to be:

What page is the #895 on? The disc are the same as the books I have.

RE: William Bangs
What date does yours go up to? My book ends in 1891. With Ohio Death certificates starting in 1909, that leaves 18 years of possible Glendale burials unresearchable, at least from the armchair. :)

There is a "two disc Glendale set" ?? :) I have the books, but no Bangs for 1855.

I have a big list of obits to do - I keep adding to it. Just haven't had time to get to the library recently, my last month of so of weekends has been hectic.

RE: Henry L Bangs 1822-1855
The one listed with no info died in 1848 - you can tell by the burial # - the burials are in chronological order. That one was probably a child.

William Bangs
A little confusing. The burial number in the burial book falls within the year 1843, but the index to deaths in the newspaper has him listed in Feb. of 1844. I will put him on my list.

RE: Henry L Bangs 1822-1855
Actually, I was hoping it would say where he was buried, so you could add him. I take it, it doesn't? He is probably at Glendale, but as he is not listed in the burial book there is no way to prove it. Unless one uncovers a tombstone. He should probably be in the same section as his parents, and all of their stones are almost certainly fallen and sod-covered. :(

Hi
I didn't create the connections that are on her memorial but if you look there is a Martin Shank listed as her brother and Louis and Catherine Shank are listed as her parents. Hence the maiden name of Shank .

RE: John and Mary Lees
Frank and Robert are in an orphanage in Erie Co., NY in 1910; Marie, Anna and Margaret are in an orphanage in Cleveland. I couldn't find Agnes, so you did well! I got death dates for everyone, but all but Marie and Margaret died a bit too early to make it to Newsbank in the Akron Beacon Journal to find the burials - I would have to go look them up by hand. Margaret is already on the site, and I sent an edit for her to be linked. I am not related - I just get intrigued with stuff - I keep a virtual cemetery for twins, so that got me going on trying to see if there were more children...

John and Mary Lees
You've got me intrigued with the Lees family now. I found a number of other children for them. I wonder what happened to the children after Mary's death? I found Frank in an orphanage, but the rest all vanished, only to reappear later. Cannot locate any other than Frank on the 1910 census. See Mary Lees' memorial for the full list of children. She died giving birth to Agnes, who survived.

Hi Mike: I tried to add his father and mother, but Findagrave kept giving me an error message stating they were already linked. I don't see the link, but the website wouldn't let me link them, so I put the information in the bio section. Chris

You can send it the same way you do any edit. Just click on "edit", then click on "suggest any other correction or addition". Let me know if there is a problem and thanks again! (Btw, I found other information and have made updates to her memorial but would love to see the obit and add it to her husband's memorial, if you have where it was published.)
