RE: the Johns.
Hi Stefanie, I have Andrew's father John as approximately 1780-1832. John Timon Reily Historical Society put together translations of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Conewago Chapel) in 1980. You might still be able to order a set... includes births, marriages deaths, etc. Every tree I found with the Sally Monroe marriage note got tagged with my comment. I wouldn't say that I have evidence to prove who Andrew's father was -- I applied the logic found at the end of my comment... I haven't seen anything from any one that would make me consider Joannes Michael first married Sally Monroe and fathered Andrew. Have you found anyone who has proof that Andrew's father was not John Strausbaugh? Joannes Michael was always called Michael. Let me know if you want an invite to my tree. I have my trees public unless I'm working on them. Right now I'm working on them. Shirley

RE: the Johns.
Many researchers believe that our "John Michael" (Generation 4, known by our family as Michael and father of Anthony) had a first wife (Sally Monroe).

Researcher Don Osborn's Strausbaugh info does not list Sally Monroe as the first wife of our John Michael but rather as first wife of John Strasbach Jr., son of John and Margaret (Kientz) Strasbach; and also grandson of Michael and his wife Eva Catherine (Staub) Strasbach.

"John is believed to have first married a neighbor of his youth in Berwick Township, Sally Monroe (Maurer) probably daughter of Andrew Maurer. They had one known child, Andrew, named for his maternal grandfather. Sally died sometime prior to 1824. It is believed there were other children of this marriage which have not yet been identified.

The evidence that it was John Jr who married Sally Maurer is simply that there were only two other John Strasbachs of the Paradise Strasbach families, who were old enough to have been the groom of this marriage. These were John Michael, son of Michael Jr, who had married Margaret Elizabeth Marks in 1822, and John, son of Peter, who married Anna Mary Wahns, also in 1824.

John Strasbach married secondly Mary Blair on Oct 26, 1824. The marriage is recorded at Conewago Chapel, place of marriage is unknown, it may have been at the Chapel or at the home of his aunt Magdalena Brandt which was used as a mass house for Catholic services for the Beaver Creek neighborhood prior to building the Catholic Church..."

sjack: I do not recognize a marriage to "Sally" as a first marriage for my Great-Great Grandfather John Michael. Considerations:

- Don Osborn's notes.

- Conewago baptism record for Andrew:

STRAUSBAUGH: Andrew, born 10-20-1816; baptized 12 27-1816, I-149
John & Sally Monroe Strausbaugh/Mary Strausbaugh

Joannes Michael's childrens baptisms were consistently recorded as parents Michael and Elizabeth. The use of Michael is in keeping with the use of names tradition. If Andrew was the son of our Joannes Michael it would say Michael and Sally instead it says John and Sally. Also, I agree with Don Osborn's comments years ago. I haven't seen anything presented by any one that would make me consider our Joannes Michael was married to Sally and fathered Andrew.

RE: Family
Thank you for the information. I just ran into a road block everytime i tried to get past great grand-father Isaac and I don't have my mother around to ask anymore. It's a shame I didn't start earlier, but my parents died fairly young.
I just didn't know how you fit into the family and I am glad I contacted you to mfind out.
Again I say thank you and if I can help you in any way please get back to me. I have quite a bit of info on the Strausbaugh Family.

Howard Strausbaugh
Hi Stefanie,
I am a grandson of Howard Strausbaugh and son of Dora (Strausbaugh) Goodling. My name is William L. Goodling and I was wondering how you are related to the Strausbaugh family. I don't remember seeing the name Steffey anywhere in my research. I am also concerned as to where the information as to Isaac Strausbaugh being the son of Andrew. I can not find a tie between the two.I would be greatful for any information you might have.
Thank you, Bill
