RE: Wilson Monroe Giffin
You might want to check out my Knox County (OH) Families database on RootsWeb. I have about 80 Giffin/Giffen people shown there. This is a work in progress, with additions and corrections added at least 4 times a year, so you might check back occasionally.

Hi Terry. I found her death notice, which incorrectly lists her maiden name as Tommer (actually it's Boreiter, with Tommer being her first husband's name) but it led to her daughters, father, and brother's FindaGrave memorials. Perhaps you already knew that, but I submitted links to the memorial owners to link them all up.

RE: Lillian M Giffin
Hi Terry. Ha ha, yes, this was a tough one! i'm usually able to peel up the sod, but not only was it sunken, the soil was really packed, dry, and hard. Sorry I couldn't uncover the left side. Cemetery records and her death certificate say a birth year of 1894. Given the form of her death info on the headstone, I suspect the birth info will have only the year, 1894. I see there is an edit pending, so perhaps you've already submitted that. Do you know more about her, to trace her through records? The cemetery record has her living in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood of Cleveland, but I also see someone who might be her living in Ravenna and Hudson before that.

Picture of Geoge O Steele Memorial # 157387060
Just wondering if you have any additional information on the photo you added to Geo O Steele Find a grave. Was surprised to find a photo rather than a tombstone. I am not a direct descendant but he is on my Steele family tree. Thanks in advance for any information or story behind the picture.

RE: 500 photos WOW !
I think that there were only a few that ended up sideways...unfortunately they were the ones you wanted. I found this cemetery not far from my weekend home that was only 41% photographed and had a lot of my relatives in it, so a took the plunge and took a lot of pictures. Also unfortunately in the country in Illinois there is usually no cell service and no Wi-Fi nearby. I can't even use my GPS on my phone to find the cemeteries, I have to rely on old-fashioned plat maps and gazeteer. Sorry for the trouble with your photos...the last name Giffin is interesting...there were also a fair number of Griffins in the same cemetery so for awhile I was confused about who wanted what photos.

Terry,

Yeah...I don't know what happens sometimes...the pictures aren't sideways on my computer...and when you open them up all the was at Find A Grave they are correct.

I'd be happy if you want to take them and fix them. I took over 500 pictures that day and am tired of looking at them ;)

David Proudfit
Dear Terry,

I suggest that you remove the picture of the military marker you've posted for David Proudfit (1770-1830), #54262647. This marker is for one of his relatives -- David W. Proufit (1834-1911), #61594061.

The elder Proudfit did not serve in the military.

thank you -- judi mcg

I must have misspelled it. Sorry. Wonder why he isn't in the Belmont Co Vet book. I've found others that aren't in it either. Sure wish their stones had dates.

The Brocks
Terry - just read your bio. Do you have any information on the Brocks? My 5th great grandfather/mother were Benjamin Brock & Sarah Sanderson. I have located their probate records and they died in Flushing area but haven't located their graves. I have located my 4th Great Grandparents (Jesse and Mary Brock). Their son George Washington Brock and Nancy Haines were my 3rd Great Grandparents.

Any information you might have on them would be appreciated. Jesse had 3 sons and left two homes on acreage to them somewhere on Reservoir Hill Rd. I'm hoping to find it and see if there are any ruins left. I'm working with St. Clairsville on trying to find exactly where the land is located. I know one section is where Console Energy is located.

George Sanderson Brock (one of Benjamin's sons) built a home on Holloway Rd. There is a picture of it that indicates that M.D. Morris lived in it and it was still standing in 2009.

Other relatives from the area are Kirk, Pickering, Morris, Butcher, Carpenter.

Sorry for going on, but wanted to give you as much information as possible ...

RE: Methodist, aka: Windy Point
Hello Terry - I took this project on because I was looking for my ancestors. When I talked to the town office, they said they did not keep any records on the interments. It is a nice cemetery, but they don't take much care when mowing, etc. I've noticed several stones that were moved, hit, broken in between times I've been there. I'm usually in a little hurry when I go down there, it's a 2-1/2 hour drive so I'm glad that the pictures have come out as well as they have. I use a Cannon Power Shot since it's small and easy to use.

I did locate a couple documents that had been completed by a genealogy group that walked the cemetery reading the headstones and assigning the Lot numbers. I'm comparing everything and hope to determine where people are located.

Thank you for your updates. Any information/corrections are appreciated. There are several cemeteries in the area, but don't know if I'll take them on like this one, but you never know. :-)

Hoping to find out the name of Eliza's parents and/or siblings. I have searched through all of the cemeteries in Pickaway, Perry and Muskingum counties hoping to find a Griffith connection, but have not found anything to connect. I no longer have the bible as it went to an unknown relative somewhere in Missouri---I just wrote it word for word 40 years ago when my grandmother Myra was still alive---for some reason she gave it to some other family member which told her that they just wanted to borrow it and return it soon (which they never did)

RE: Giffin History
Don't know too much about my great grandfather`s history (Charles Giffin)1860-1941 besides him being Irish and from Ohio. From my Grandmother`s Giffin family bible (Myra Giffin Morrow), had a small note written in it---Jerald or Gerald Giffin immigrated from Ireland date unknown. He settled in Columbia, on the Ohio River in the spring of 1714. His brother was killed by Indians near Columbia on Nov. 27, 1794. Charles Giffin`s mother (maiden name Ward, was from Holland. Charles wife was Gertrude E. Giffin 1867-1954 ( This is the only history written in the Bible )
