Enoch died in 1880, the 1906 pension date doesn't seem right. What took her so long to file.

RE: Owl Creek cemetery
As my profile says I will transfer any family or friends. His wife is probably buried there. Record keeping was not very good back then. I will transfer him.

I have books that list Pike cemeteries and burials. I made memorials for everyone listed.

I took the info for memorial from the book “Tombstone Revelations in Macoupin County, Illinois” compiled by Macoupin County Historical Society Committee. The group went to every cemetery in northern Macoupin co and read each stone and looked at records to make this book. Other than that I cannot say.

Your suggestion:
May I copy the family photo to use on my page for this family? Thanks for the consideration.

You would have to contact the family of the photo.

RE: Robert Sidney Burks

Sorry it took so long for me to answer. Hello, cousin. Robert S. Burks was my grandfather, but I never really knew him. I was only four when he died in 1945. My mother always talked of her uncle Hasten, but I do not remember her talking of her other aunts or uncles. I don't even think that she knew much about her own grandmother Laura Anna Palmer Burks.

The legend of their grandfather, Wm. Elisha Burks was told to me by my aunts, especially Aunt Lucy Burks Burnham. Her memory was imperfect. She told me when I was a child, that he had died while crossing the Mississippi River after the Civil War. She said that he was buried on the point of land where the Missouri River meets the Mississippi.

Another of my aunts, I believe it was Aunt Lilah Burks Hartman, said that they were on their way to California after the war and would stop sometimes, squat on land for a time, in order to raise a crop before moving on.

Of course, that is improbable, since they were coming from Ballard Co., KY and the Missouri was too far north. It is likely that she confused the Ohio R. with the Missouri and that he is really buried somewhere near Cairo, Ill. This is just speculation however since Aunt Lucy passed long ago.

I have speculated that William Elisha Burks probably fought in the Civil War, was displaced by the Reconstruction, and so packed up his family after the war to head for California. It took several years for them to get to Ballard Co, KY and he died or was killed crossing the Mississippi River. Laura then came on to Missouri, since some of her Palmer relatives had already settled there. There were also some Burks already there as well.

I saw your pending edit and took a chance. My family is Henson and I have an 18 page document on Thomas Henson. I found out her parents are one of those and was going to add Jacob and his wife to her. You beat me to it. I like solving mysteries, completing families and creating mini trees. See you at the next edit. Happy 4th of July.

Hi Shelia, I do appreciate your efforts, however, it is not the correct Dora Ellen Adkins born 02-02-1900, married to and buried beside Floyd Clayton Slocum born 07-24-1895. Would you please see if you can locate the correct Dora Adkins. Thank you again for your efforts.
