I can't believe they began charging for look-ups. I am outraged. From now on, I will personally call before I make a photo request. Sorry for the hassle...

Fred A. Kerr
Thank you so much for taking the picture of the stone for my husband's Uncle, Fred Kerr. He and I appreciate so much you taking the time to do this. Without volunteers like yourself, we may never be able to see where our loved ones are buried.

A big thank you!

RE: Byle at Rosedale Grand Rapids
LOL! I got rid of the run-away msgs! :) I did dig out the ancestry stuff and saw where there are more Byle's at Rosedale (amongst other cemeteries).... Kent County was LOADED with them. I am not familiar with a Bud, but that doesn't mean anything.....with all those kids they had..then those kids have kids, and on and on....I had to draw the line somewhere in research! Perhaps one of the easiest lines to find with them is Dirk..that clan is mainly in Fulton and it was a HUGE job to research that connection to them. Holy cow.

RE: Tyyne
You had mentioned you had other Byle headstones from Rosedale. Which ones did you find? I am trying to sift through my MYRIADS of names in my genealogy program to see who is where (man....I think I got a little extensive on my research! LOL).

I know there is a Roger Byle in there somewhere...he died in 1950. His dad was Dennis, who died in 1989 (I think the Byle family had a "thing" about the name Dennis....there are TONS of them)...and I would think he would be there if his son is....but who knows! I should've taken down all of this info when I had obits pulled!

Silas HUFFORD, Greenwood Cem., Grand Rapids
Regarding Silas HUFFORD interred at Greenwood Cemetery, in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan, there are three sources that say he was interred at that cemetery:

Consequently, I have relisted him at that cemetery. Here is his memorial page:

The first link above is to a 2001 gravewalker's list. The second link above is to a 1930 DAR-transcription of cemetery gravestones.

Silas' remains definitely were buried in the cemetery, and as recently as 2001, a gravewalker found his stone.

Would you be able to upload the same picture to Tyyne's site, as well?? I have her listed with the same last name, I just don't think I did a photo request for her:) You're the best!

So the parents were Martin & Jozefa NOWAKOWSKI. However, the children changed their last names. The name is Nowakowska, Novakoski, Novakoska and so forth. I know Eugene is buried at Holy Cross cuz his obituary stated so. Same with the Nowakowskis. The transcriptions came from a local historical society from the 1940s. I know they are there.....

HUFFORD thanks! :-)
Thank you for the photo of the Michael W. HUFFORD gravestone at Greenwood Cemetery. Much appreciated. Thank you also for finding that the cemetery reports that Silas HUFFORD was *not* interred at that cemetery. I will have to check that information closer, and I'll either get him listed in the right cemetery or list him as a "burial unknown."

RE: Byle!
Awww..thanks for doing that for me!! So these graves, apparently, are unattended by family, I am guessing, huh? I always feel really bad when I see "abandoned" graves (those that get no visitors, etc). :(

I am slowly getting the rest online (between running around with my head chopped off with two kids under 5!)....*whew*

YOU ROCK!!!! Thank you sooo much for the pictures from Rosedale!! GREATLY appreciate it! How did you find them? Did you have to ask at the office? I've never been there so I couldn't tell you how big it is, but if they are anything like some of the ones in Lansing, we are talking ACRES of land to walk around!

Thanks again!!! I owe you!

RE: Holy Cross ...G.R.
Hiya! I wanted to make requests for Edward Nurski and all the MOJZUKS listed in the Find A Grave Holy Cross but I ran out of requests. (I reached my limit for the week). I figured I let you know just in case. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me and my cousins. Living in IL and CA stinks when you descend from MI! LOL!

Hiya. My cousin says she has all the Dalga obits. However, I am missing three obits for my family. Theyre from the Grand Rapids Press. Think you could grab them for me?

Can you Help ME?
Dear Bitsorf41,

I am hoping you can be my guardian angel. I live in Illinois, but my ancestors (chlebek and Radlicki) founded Grand Rapids and the Sacred Heart Church.

I need someone to help take grave photos at Holy Cross, obtain obituaries from the GRPL, and possibly visit the church.

I have about 15-20 grave photos that need to be taken and they're in giant family plots. As for the obituaries, I have all the dates and names. Someone just needs to find and copy them.

Can you please help me? I am willing to reinburse you for photo development and the microfilm copies and anything else.

Please e-mail me at

John "Chester" Valk
Thank you so much for fulfilling my photo request! Do you, by chance, still have lot/block/plot number of his grave? I would like to add that to my family tree information.

Uncle Chet was a post-humous awardee of the Purple Heart. You can read his story here.
