John Vogan FindaGrave Memorial# 34215424
Soozie,
Thanks very much for transcribing the Vogan memorials.
I have John married to Elizabeth Studebaker hsving married her in 1793. Do you know anything about this? If so where might she be buried?
I am not sure of direction connection to Vogsn family for me but someone way back there married a Vogan and so they became "family"

I have no connection to John Vogan and don't know much him, except that I randomly photographed his gravestone in the North Collins Cemetery. On John Vogan's memorial page (#129911419), someone else made links to his siblings and children, so I am hoping that information will be helpful to you.

RE: Jonathan Harlan
Dear Soozie:
We were scheduled to leave this April 30 and we were going to drive across the country (from Santa Rosa, CA) to Fulton, Mo, then PA to various places, and finally to Essex co, VA and Williamsburg. However, the cardiologist just told my husband that he needs a pacemaker (yesterday), so I do not know yet if he can get it when we return, if we can go in June instead of May, or if we will have to wait for another year.
When we ever get there, we will go to Slippery Rock, PA at first for some of the Harlans before they came to CA (my line, at least) and we will also visit my sister-in-law in Lebanon, PA and will be able to take day trip to Kennet Square and area where I will look for info/headstones of the other Harlans.
Believe me, I will post anything that I find whenever I finally get there. First, my husband needs to be well recovered.
Sue

John Vogan's gravestone is in North Collins Quaker Meeting House Cemetery in North Collins, NY (Erie County). Does that help you at all?

Please contact the person who submitted that picture - Ashley Armstrong. She photographed Greenlawn Cemetery. Due to disability, I am not able to do much photographing. If you would like me to transfer management of the memorial to you, I will be happy to do so.

I do not have any Vogan pictures that I took.

I took a couple of Vogel pictures, though. Which one are you referring to?

RE: cemetery
Are you looking for the old Presbyterian Church Cemetery that is now the Baptist Cemetery or the Methodist Cemtery? Either one - I can send you a Google Map to show you where it is. Actually they are across the street from one another.

Update on Greenwood Cemetery
Hi Soozie,
Just wanted to let you know that Greenwood is now being maintained by a group of locals. I can try to find the Vogan's that you are looking for, but I don't know how successful I will be.

Taking care of the memorials
Hi Soozie, I just started contributing and I just recently visited Kings Chapel looking for 2 different graves that were impossible to find. The head stones are falling over, they are sinking into the ground, I even seen a couple of head stones that were leaning against trees, and even seen one site that had 3 markers just piled up on each other. They go in a mow the grass but they don't do any trimming. Something needs to be done with our local cemeteries with the upkeep. There are memorials there that are so old that they are unreadable. The owners of the cemeteries need to go in and on the unreadable markers need to place something there that shows who is buried there. Something needs to be done about the horrible conditions of final resting places of our loved ones. I have seen so many other cemeteries that are so well maintained, so why cant they take care of the grounds here?

Greenwood/William Vogan
Hi Soozie,

I just read your post about the unkempt state of Greenwood Cemetery. I don't know if you know this or not, but there are a team of people that were organized by a local of New Castle that are supposed to go out there this coming spring/summer and take care of the situation. My husband and I were out there this past summer trying to take care of some of it, but unfortunately, we don't have the proper equipment nor the manpower to do much. We did some, but it was just a small dent in the problem. The other part of that cemetery that exists way in the back (the entrance to this side is off of a street from Smithfield St...can't remember the name of the road, though). That side is absolutely horrendous! Currently, they have the main entrance chained off. It's been that way for several months now. I have no idea why but it is.
Hopefully they get a regular caretaker for that cemetery real soon. The public can only do so much! Take care.

Soozie, sounds like you had a wonderful time. It is always great to see our loved ones gravesite in person. It becomes a whole different view. Have fun in New Castle.
