Heighton Hill
I forgot to tell you that I was doing some restoration on Heighton Hill and tried to probe for the Tanner son but will have to wait for the knee high weeds to die back! I'll keep you on my "todo list" and will let you know what I find.

Cyrena Tanner
Just to let you know that I checked at the JCGS and History Center -- they have photographed all the stones at the Old Brownstown Cemetery and have surveyed the graveyard and neither have records for Cyrena. I wasn't able to physically walk the yard due to pouring down rain but will on the next clear day visit.

Cyrena Mooney Tanner
I saw you had a photo request for Cyrena. I checked my photo file and she's not there. However, I have been known to skip stones and sometimes whole rows, especially when they are jumbled like Brownstown. The Old City Cemetery is located behind the History Center and was restored last year so maybe her stone came to "life." I'll check when I am there next.

Heighten Hill/Tanners/Stuff
Thanks for your donation offer but it's complicated. I had gone to the Township Trustee (no help), County Commissioners (no help), the JC Historical Center (no help), and finally decided just to pay for the restoration from my own savings. It's all taken care of. I'm doing it because it's important. I'm going to JC later this month and will uncover the buried stone to find out who it is. I saw the Find A Grave picture of Andrew Tanner's stone and I don't think it's that one but he will be on the list for the Scouts to do. I try to steer them towards something that is a manageable challenge and they have done such a great job! My surnames at Heighten Hill -- Lockman, Beem, Gallion, Harrell, Weddle, Early, Dryden, Critchlow, Goen, Goss, Hall, Owen, Hunsucker, Sullivan, Utterback, and Wray. Pretty much anyone in the five cemeteries along that road I can find a link to.
Also, I am buying a Heritage Sign from the DNR which will once again give Heighten Hill it's own identification. When the JCGS did the survey decades ago, Beem Cemetery was called Beem/Heighten Hill, should have read Beem AT Heighten Hill. Most people don't realize that there's another Beem Cemetery in Brownstown Township. I did the survey on that one several years ago.

My closest connection to the Tanners is through Margaret Maggie Gallion who married Gordon Jeremiah Tanner and another is through Salina H. Tanner Critchlow whose daughter Rebecca married Abraham Gallion. Oh, and there is Margaret A Tanner who married John Craig Beem. Nothing direct, only collateral.

Martha Tanner
Yes, you are correct about Martha Tanner! I have been restoring Heighten Hill cemetery for many years and Martha's stone was reset along with Col. Tanner's by a Scout working on his Eagle badge. Their is another Tanner nearby, I think his name is George. I have left it buried in order to protect it from the mowers and vandals. Later this summer, a professional I have hired will be doing work on my ancestors. There will be plenty left for someone else to do.

RE: Martha Smith Tanner Gravestone
Sorry, I didn't post a tombstone photo for Martha Smith Tanner, however there is one posted by James Cowain for Martha Luck Tanner. She is indeed, buried at Heighton Hill. Do you have anyone else buried there?

RE: Re: Sarah
My information comes from the burial records for the New Hartford Burial Ground which was done August 9, 1950. As you pointed out I had accepted an edit without verifying it. I have removed it. Which is one of the reasons I no longer accept edits without verification. You and two other people want me to change it and none of you can agree on the spelling of the surname, which is why I added the note.
Thank you,

Re: Sarah "Sal" Abby Bunce, FAG#71649907
Your suggestion:
"Sal/Sarah's father's name is spelled Abbe, and her brother's name is spelled Abbe, and her surname is spelled Abbe in the Abbe-Abbey Genealogy. Please change her maiden name to Abbe."
As I have said many times before, anyone can publish a book. It is just a family genealogy done by someone and they paid to have it published. I have several of my own family and they are fraught with errors. So the book is one source, what is a validating source? Or do you have multiple sources which would be even better.
Where is her father buried, brother buried? Unknown burials are suspect.
Thank you,

Tanner family
Hi again Lucy, it is absolutely fine that you use the pictures on your family tree. They're your ancestors, after all! :)

You're very welcome! Always glad to help. I also added John and Charles Tanner today, infant sons of Samuel and Cyrena. Let me know if you'd like to have them turned over to you.

What is your source for Thomas as his father?

Added by John Tippet on Aug 27, 2014 9:01 AM

John Machlan
Lucy, I've made the revision. I see that you have an obit. Would you upload it to Find-a-Grave or send me a copy? My 3rd Great-Grandparents: Samuel and Rebecca (Machlan) Carpenter. I have an obit for Catherine (Rev. John & Merritt's sister) and Sarah Mary (Carpenter) Machlan (their mother) that I will send to you, if you don't already have it.

The Millers are buried at locust grove cemetery and the photos I've just added are from there; I've asked the memorial creator to change the cemetery from leyden hill to locust grove.

I hope you went ahead and used the gravestone photos. I never saw your message until today and have no problem with anyone using my photos without giving credit.

RE: Aspen Grove Cemetery: John Smith Photo Request
Yea, they said there was nothing by that name with that death date. So I am guessing he is not buried there unless the death date is way off, and i doubt it. Stacy Bliesener
