I was on the cemetery commission board but we moved over the county line so I had to step off. I now just serve as the historian-a position created by the president but not county appointed. My husband has family in both cemeteries-as he has in almost every cemetery in Hancock County-I laugh but almost not a joke. His family has been here since 1820s and 1830s. His gggrandfather owned the land north of the cemetery at one time. We have a huge number in Mt Gilead Reeves which are not documented but find obits in paper stating so. Mostly children and infants. What worries me is that there have been some recent burials in the past years in Reeves and wondering where they are putting them because it is probably full.....

I dont know if I have seen the book on Mt Gilead but I know there was one on Alford-is that the other cemetery? My job is getting obituaries for every burial if possible and then documenting all the stones that have been dug up-many old ones have fallen and were under dirt and grass and no longer even visible. A boy scout troop adopted this cemetery and has been working in it since last spring. Then I am putting together a family tree of how all these people are related-because almost everyone there is tied! It is crazy to think that they are all distantly related! It is time consuming but it helps explain the story of the cemetery.

Thank you very much. I just want to let you know that they have scheduled a community day at the Reeves/Mt Gilead Cemetery for September 23rd 2017. I am not exactly sure what is planned as I was out of town during the last meeting but it might be fun if you have family in this cemetery.

Hi, I am writing about the Dobbins family in Mt. Gilead or Reeves cemetery in Mount Comfort/Maxwell, Hancock county Indiana. Are you related to this line? Asking because they are my husband's great and great great grandparents. Enoch, Ominda, Marion, Angie. Lenna-Marion and Angie's son was his grandfather. If they are not related to you, would you consider transferring them to me so that we could include more things on their memorials? Also, this cemetery is in the process of being cleaned up and stones reset in summer of 2017. There will be public work days etc... if you have any interest. Thanks you, Cyndie True

|Jo Ann Kaufman||sorry about that|
No, they seem to be discouraging transfers by making it more difficult - the easy button has been removed and even reading the FAQ is now a chore. However, I am no longer spelling challenged and did make the transfer. Happy hunting!

I can't find that memorial and the name isn't familiar. Go to his memorial and click on "Transfer Management" so the computer does the work for us. If it isn't mine, it will still go where it belongs that way. And if it is, all the relevant numbers will be magically provided.

Search Wiersmiller (name on stone and in Nathan's original entry from cemetery records)and if you then want to own the memorial, I will be happy to transfer it.

|Ron Kinney||Muller/Forest Hill Cemetery|
I check all three spellings, Muller, Weiers and Weyersmuller and I can't find him listed in either set of the records for Forest Hill. There are over 17,000 people interred here and without a section and lot number it would be very hard to find him, if he is interred here.
When I get a chance I'll check with the records keeper.
Sincerely, Ron Kinney

You are most welcome. I, too, have requested and received photos of family's headstones so I know what a thrill it is to see them. I am very happy
that I am able to do the same for someone else.

You are most welcome, it warms my heart to know you appreciate it. I am, however, having a problem finding M. Harrison 1840-1905. I had already got home after being to the cemetery with the other 5 requests, but I thought I got all Harrisons. If I can't find it, I will go back.

Thanks for letting me know that you might have access to his Revolutionary War Record. BTW do you know what the initial R. stands for? Do you have any pictures of him or his stone? -- VirJean
