Hello Cindy, Yes, the girls are twins. I added the birth date for them and their parents. The father is the second husband of my great grandmother. These were their only children. Genealogists see a lot of tragedy. Thanks for all the hard work you do.

Was wondering if this Enoch Spencer is the son of John and Mary Ketchum Spencer. He is about the right age.

RE: Enoch Spencer

I do have a memorial for Enoch Spencer (70045023) in Nanticoke. I don;t know if it is the one you are interested in. If it is, please go to the memorial and use the edit tab to request a transfer.

Were you able to find Benjamin and Viola or any of their children on the 1900 Census? I can't believe I can not find at least one of them in 1900....very frustrating.

Harry Miller
Viola Tompkins Scouten
Cindi, I have read your "story" written 12/2008 on re: Viola Tompkins Scouten. I have been contacted by another researcher who was interested in the Gilbert Family of Cortland County, New York. An 1892 census for Marathon, Cortland, NY, lists a widowed Viola Gilbert, with two children, Frankie,9, and Lena,4. Would this have been your gr. grandmother. If so, did you ever determine more on her Native American ancestry? My interest is that a Harriet Bingham married a Job Gilbert, who died of disease while serving in the American Civil War. Please reply, Harry Miller

Robert Schouten's headstone
Hi Cindi,

I walked the Old Virgil Cemetery last night and there is no stone for Benjamin.

It is possible that it has deteriorated, or that the stone was lying down or a flat stone that is now overgrown by the grass. It is a well-maintained cemetery and someone works hard to try to keep as much of the stones that are now lying flat (those that used to be upright) as trimmed as possible - but there is no stone for Schouten/Scouten. I will make one more trip because I didn't have my notes with me for other names I was looking for and double-check once again, but I took my time and think that the results will be the same next trip.
