Joshua & Betty (-----) Porter
This Mother’s Day morning, I added a flower to the grave of my “grandmother,” Betty [--?--] Porter (31964505), wife of Joshua Porter. While I was there I noticed that you too had left a flower for Grandma Betty in the past.

Despite much effort over the years, I still know nothing of the origins of Joshua and Betty. Most of what I do know is documented in www.perrystreeter.com/porter.pdf.

Have you ever considered having your (husband father? brother?) join the Porter DNA project? A sample might enable us to determine who was Joshua Porter’s immigrant Porter ancestor and narrow the scope of future research efforts. I have long “advertised” the following:

“Who were the parents of JOSHUA PORTER of Ridgefield, Fairfield Co., CT, b. ca. 1730; killed by the British during the American Revolution at Daniel Starr's residence, Danbury, CT on Saturday, 26 April 1776? Joshua reportedly had a brother named John Porter. A free DNA test may be available to a known (or highly probable) descendant of Joshua Porter who is willing to join the Porter Surname DNA Project.”

I am sure that Family Tree DNA will soon have a sale on Y-DNA test kits for Father’s Day. On behalf of all descendants of Joshua and Betty, please consider taking advantage of my offer.

Mary Adeline McGowan Coddington (#41913401)
Hi Sandy. I just came across your memorial for Mary, and wanted to let you know that she's buried in Long Beach, CA, not Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, IL. Please see memorial #152960369, which I created a couple of years ago. (I hadn't seen your memorial before since it wasn't linked to that of her first husband Calvin Coddington.) It would probably be best to removing the Illinois memorial since it has an incorrect burial location. P.S. - I'm a McGowan descendant, and would be interested in sharing family information with you, if you'd like. :)

Carle Porter Jr.
Carle JR. was not by Irene. I assume the Carle Porter Sr. buried here is his father, but the cemetery has no record of Carle Jr.

Hi Sandy, I just wanted to let you know that I've added tombstone pictures to the Stratton's memorials if you care to take a look. They are in rough shape due to age, but if you click on the picture, once opened, click on it again and you'll get a bigger view. Thought you'd like to know. Regards, Nadeen

Certainly. I don't normally add if another contributor has posted a photo, but I had taken a close-up of these. The stone is perfect in 2008...perhaps newly cleaned if anyone does that.

According to a cemetery book created by the Mitchell Research Center and Louise Hawkes in 1983 says Griffith, Frank d. June 11, 1909 no stone dates from burial records.

There is a whole bunch of Griffiths in St. Anthony's Cemetery, which Griffiths would you like me look into...Please email me @ sweet_lavender_angels@hotmail.com

The local historical society in this town is called The Mitchell Research Center. I do not think they have anything that you would be able to research online...I can look into obituaries and stuff for you if you like, but you will have to give me abt a week at best because I previously signed on to find remaining stones for St. Anthony's Cemetery which there are about 3 left I do believe and I claimed majority of the ones in Lakeview Cemetery here in Hillsdale as well and there are about 22 there....

I'm cousin's several times removed with Samantha (Meeks) Coddington - Jonathan's wife. I've only recently started working this line and thought it better to share while the information was fresh on my mind, glad it could be used.

To the left of Agnes, George and Theresa's stones not even 10 steps away is another set of Griffith stones. There pictures are already on here. They were John and his wife Mary. Joseph, Harry P., Peter and Abbie Griffith...

RE: Agnes Griffith
Sorry I couldn't get a better picture the stones for Agnes, Theresa, and George are somewhat washed out...I am going to go back later today or tomorrow and see if we can locate Frank...The office woman for St. Anthony Church says he is supposed to be right there next to those stones, but she couldn't tell me for sure if it was to the right or left of James and Katherine...as I said to the right of James and Katherine is a planter and then to the left is Agnes, Theresa and George. His stone may be gone, but I haven't given up yet... ;-)

I have located the graves of Agnes, Theresa, and George Griffith. I am having a hard time finding Frank, I called St. Anthony's Catholic Church who is in charge of the cemetery and the woman told me that he should be right there Agnes, Theresa & George right next to James and Katherine. To the left of James and Katherine are Agnes, Theresa, and George. To the right of James and Katherine is a planter....We even walked around James and Katherine's stone thinking maybe his name was on the sides or the back of it. I will keep looking but I am wondering if the stone is no longer there....

Thank you, Sandy. If you aren't attached to his memorial and wouldn't mind transferring it, I'd be happy to take it. Perhaps those of his sons, as well? The three memorial IDs are 31053616, 31053759 and 31053679. My contributor ID is 48704063. Thanks again!
