Congleton-Wood Cemetery
Hi Sue, I have some relatives supposedly buried in the Congleton-Wood Cemetery in Estill County, Kentucky. The address for the cemetery says "Fox, Kentucky" -- where is that? It's not on the map. I see you took some photos of tombstones there so I thought you might be able to give me directions! Thanks. Martha

St Mary Cemetery, Titta Request
Good Evening,

I saw your photo request for Titta at the St Mary Cemetery in Cincinnati Oh and did not see a location. I visited the local library and found two cemetery cards for the name, Titta. Maddalena is one of them.

If you would like the cards, I can email you. If so, please email me at morbach@fuse.net.

Thank you,

Hello

Hello I am in here trying to fill some photo request's. You have one for
Dillie Ann Gregory McFadden in Mount Salem Cem.
I do not see this person in this Cem at all..
Do you have proof of her being in this Cem ?? If so I will go to the Historical building and see if I can find a spot for her. There is one Eve Dellie Parman in this Cem, Could it be possible this is the same person ??
Do you know her Husband ?? Any thing at all might help locate her. Also I have 150 stones still to put in and I have found a couple of stone's that have no date or name on stone..The more info I have to work with will help.

35571721 it is for Mark A Shermon in McFadden cemetery.
You have 2 picture's there for this person. I have walked this cemetery and I do not see these stones there.. I may have missed it. But before I do edit to the owner of this mem I need to make for sure where the picture's were taken at.
It would save me some walking if u know for sure which of the 2 McFadden cemeteries Shermon is in.
Thanks

Hey Sue,
Noticed your request for a pic of the grave of Sarah Harris. She has no marker. In truth, neither she nor Samuel have a marker. That thing in the picture is something I put together as a kid and placed there.
With all those kids you would think that they would have each donated a dollar toward the 'marker fund.'
Anna Meeks Kuethe Eldred didn't have one either, however when I was about 12 I got all of her children and grandchildren to give a certain amount toward buying a maker and then my mom ordered it. Everyone gave $20. My mom, who saw her about once a year had to throw in $100.00. UGH!
I am currently in the process of dealing with the V.A. to have a military gravestone placed on the lot where Anna Horton is buried with Anderson Harris' information. They will do that for person whose remains are were not recovered. This should be wrapped up soon.
It was kind of a pain in that I am faxing stuff there almost every day. It's harder because the want to make sure that the whereabouts of his remains are indeed unknown.
It required a bunch of signatures, surveys of the lot at the Richmond Cemetery as there are no markers on the lot at all.
I have already paid for the receipt and installation and so that is all completed.
My mom recently paid perpetual care on a grave from 1890 so that the cemetery would put the marker back on its base. St Mary's in Cincinnati knocks all of the gravestones over in sections that are old until someone coughs up some money for perpetual care. Again, UGH!
The V.A. will do the same thing for Samuel Meeks, but I figure I will leave that up to someone else as I have had enough fun for a while.
We should get a fund going for markers for Anna Horton and Sarah Harris....would be nice, but I guess we'll have to see.
You really should check out the cemetery in Silver Creek as it is really kind of fun making your way through the woods and stuff to see the place.
I am going to email you the births page from Samuel Meeks and Sarah Harris' Bible. The daughters all changed the years of birth to hide their ages. The marriage date that Sarah Harris wrote on the front is a year off....for obvious reasons. Let me know if for some reason you don' receive it.
Thanks.
Gregg

Picture
Hey sweetie!

Just got a new scanner about three days ago and had to get a new computer yesterday after the previous one crashed. Not a cheap week!! You asked about a picture of my dad's grave. I put in a request and hope someone can help with the picture. He is on what is part of a combination of three adjoining lots that were purchased by Lena Jung Sohn at Spring Grove Cemetery. When my dad died, my mom was in such shock that she didn't have much to do with picking the cemetery so my dad's brother, Paul Leeser, handled it. He knew that my mom had some relatives at Vine Street Hill, but did not know that most of her family was buried on the lot at Spring Grove. My great-great grandmother, Caroline Scheidt Armbrust was first cousin to Lena Sohn, whose husband owned the Sohn Brewery (later Clyffside...can see the old building at McMicken just west of Vine). She was also the niece of Daniel Jung who owned another large brewery and her uncle,Philip Jung's wife was the sister of Christian Moerlein's wife. Just a bit of useless background information. lol In any case in the center lot there is a huge white structure that looks a bit like part of the Parthenon. It reads Sohn and then 'Until the Day Breaks.' The lot to the left, I am told, had a very large Greek style urn monument, which is no longer there. The one to the right has a red monument that reads Leeser Kuethe on one side and on the other, a peom my mom loves and put it on there just for him, 'Warm southern wind, blow softly here. Green sod above, lie light, lie light. Good night, dear Heart, Good night, good ...' The monument used to just say Leeser and the poem, but I got her to add Kuethe. I think she still wishes it just said Leeser. My great grandmother's cousins, Enda and Elsa Sohn (who my mom last saw in 1956) actually have a trust so that the monuments are cleaned twice a year forever and that flowers are placed on each grave three times a year. I think that was a lovely idea. I am sure some good soul will pick up the request in time. My marker is there too! I got my mom to get hers in 2006 when I was buying mine. As a genealogist, I wanted everything right on it! We picked each other's quote at the bottom as my dad's reads, 'well done thou good and faithful servant.' There are still lipstick marks on the picture she has on her dresser of him. She still loves him so much.

Hi Sue,
Absolutely. I flew back to California for one day and while there I picked up a few things related to the Meeks/Harris family and plan on scanning those things in the next few days. My email address is gregg.socal@hotmail.com if you want to contact me directly.
Also, I'll be happy to share any stories with you that aren't too lurid. (nothing that terrible so far...)
Look forward to hearing from you.

Richmond Cemetery
Sue,
Who finally told you about the Carrie Meeks West being buried in the Richmond Cemetery? I 'm sorry I didn't know you were unaware or I could have told you. I used to see Lil as a child all the time. My mom's aunt, Agnes Kuethe Peterson, would often come watch my sister and me when our parents were in Europe and Lil would often come along. When I was much older and I'd visit Cincinnati, I loved to go up to Hamilton and drop in on Ag and Lil at that building on Smalley. I spoke with quite a number of Carrie's children, I also spoke with children of Anna, May, Sarah (Sallie), Harris, John, Samuel, as well as grandchildren of Mattie and Charlie. Nannie was never married and had no kids and Judith's only daughter that survived into adulthood and her son had already passed away. It was nice bringing everyone together again. So many of these cousins hadn't seen or heard from one another in 50 years. The last big reunion was in 1931 and then they began to drift apart. One fun thing is that I know all of the lurid stories that people in their 80s and 90s have kept secret and are finally happy to share. (Nothing too lurid, but some that would cause great embarassment to some and that's not necessary, in general terms, who was who's actual child, the accidental shooting, and so on.) Although, I know much of this stuff and those who either told me or were involved passed away decades ago, it seems a shame to let all interesting stories die with me. Not by a long shot would I reveal about 80% of the stories, but the remainder might be worth preserving. Also, Samuel Meeks and Sarah Harris are listed here as being buried at the Silver Creek Cemetery. That is true , but not the large cemetery that apparently carries the official name. We will have to do something about that. Their Silver Creek Cemetery is not a church related cemetery nor is it maintained at all. One of the wives of Samuel/Sarah Harris Meeks grandsons who I've known since I found that family around 1980 were talking the other day and just laughed up a storm when we realized there was another Silver Creek Cemetery in Berea. We have both been through those fields, over those fences, and into the forest to see Samuel Meeks and Sarah Harris. Her husbansd also has a baby sister buried there. Anyway, I would like to brainstorm with you about some of these family stories and how to 'relocate' the Meeks' to a cemetery that I don't even see on here. Thanks Sue!

Thanks Sue! I know how it is. Don't worry about it. I'm going to start getting together asll of the old documents and pictures I can find and scanning them. When there is anything I think you might be interested in I will definately let you know.
My great grandmother (on a different branch) always told my mother she didn't know anything about her mother's family and never met her grandparents as they were already dead. Find out: she was in her teens when her grandparents died. She did have plenty of relatives on her mother's side. (the Sohns of Sohn Brewery showed up at her husbands funeral in 1956...some of the relatives she didn't want to claim????) Would love to know what was up with all of that, but even the best research can never reach into someone's mind. :-/ Take care! Gregg

Just so you and the other person put him on Find A Grave recently within 18 days, so you both are duplicating him, maybe he doesn't realize that you put his Memorial as A.R. Harris. I only realized it because Mary Francis Harn Marcum the daughter of my Great Great Grandmother. I found her death certificate and she is buried in this cemetery, I put her memorial in the Richmond Cemetery, and manage my Great-Great Grandmothers memorial.

Thanks so much for getting back to me, Sue. Just so you know, if you and your husband ever get down to the cemetery in Richmond, a lot of the relatives are buried there.

Anna Horton Harris

Her siblings:
Anderson R. Harris (son of the direct ancestor)
Mary Edna Harris Yates *
Nannie Harris
Fannie Harris Jones *

A number of Sarah Harris Meeks siblings and a lot of cousins as well.

I hope all is well. Take care.

MEEKS/HARRIS/WEST
Hi Sue

I am wondering if you know if any of the family have any pics of Samuel and Sarah (Harris) Meeks floating around or any of their children when they are young to middle age? Also, any old Bible's or anything that could be scanned? I like to try to get some stuff on line so it can be shared. I have the births page from the Bible of Sarah Harris Meeks. The years have all been scratched out (by Anna and Mattie)! I also have a small painting of Martha (Mattie) Harris Jones, Sarah's sister who died very young. Unfortunately everything is in storage at this time so I'll have to go digging. Oh, I also have the letter that Anna Horton Harris wrote giving permission for Samuel Meeks to marry her daughter Sarah Harris. In any case, there must be some pics or things floating around out there. There must be one of Anna Horton Harris I would think. If they were already having pics made of immediate family members who passed away before she did, something's out there. Anderson Harris and his wives have so many descendants and my immediate family got stuff like that, there must be boxes of 'goodies' out there! (who were not close to the Meeks. my mom said she probably saw her grandmother Anna Meeks Kuethe Eldred once every 2-3 months when growing up even though they all lived in Cincinnati. My cousin, Cheryl, was 18 when Anna Meeks died and said she could count on one hand the number of times she saw her. My grandfather was notfond of his step-father and also my grandmother's family is VERY German. Five/six generations out, but still hard working and rather to themselves. We did not even know we were related to Christian Moerlein eight times by marriage, Daniel Jung of Weyand and Jung Brewers is my g-g-g grandmother's brother, her other brother was on the front of the Enquirer when he died ca. 1916 because his estate was so large. My mom's family and all those other families lived within blocks. My mother had no idea. None of them had much to do with any others. No bad blood, just no tine for that sort of thing. Clyffside Brewery on McMicken is also Sohn Brewery and two of Sohn's daughters were at my g-grandfather's funeral. The older relatives knew them, but no one had ever mentioned it. Of course my g-grandfather had a brother that was never mentioned until his obit was in the paper.) Hope to hear from you soon. Take care!!!

I couldn't find Beverlys either. But I'm going back today to check again. The Gray next to Marcellas is unknown to me. I was curious about it too. Dads brother Jim or James T Gray is someplace else. His father is buried in KY at an unmarked grave and his mother Rosie is in the newer part of Greenwood.

Sue, thanks for bringing that to my attention; I've added Ethel's parents to her memorial. If I had checked my genealogy program, I'd have caught that.

Louis is my grandfather's (john fred) brother so I guess that would make him my grand-uncle too. Who is your husband's ancestor? Does that mean we're cousins?
