Transfer of Bloomfield Memorials
Dearest Friend, Alice….
It has been so long since I have heard from you. If you are taking a hiatus, please just drop me a line. If you are putting your account on inactive status, I would be greatly honored if you would transfer the Bloomfield memorials from First Presbyterian Church Cemetery that we spent so many months working on together, into my care. I will take care of your beloved family members as if they are my own, as I feel they have become. Thank you, friend! Maureen (#47479995)

Hi Alice,
I am..slowly..inputting the gravestone names from this cemetery with a printout of an informal cemetery survey done in 1999. I have found several Russells and their birth/death dates/spouses of memorial pages you have created. I will send edits and you can accept them if you feel they are the correct Russells.
Good luck with your genealogy,
Sara

Hello, Alice,

In the Barber collection we find this, from the 11 July 1842 NY Evening Post :

"Metuchen, N.J. July 9, res. of her father S. Bloomfield, Mrs. Anna C. 35y 9m relict of H H Brown, decd."

It appears that her husband, Henry Halsey Brown, who died about a year earlier, is buried in the Congregational Churchyard in Chester, Morris co., NJ.

David.

Hi Alice,
The tree is actually covering the vault itself. It is the only marker remaining as to where those individuals are currently buried, because there is no remaining stone.

RE: Your cemetery photo
It's absolutely my pleasure, Alice! I hope to have the rest of the headstones posted soon! The trees really ARE beautiful in bloom...too bad it is for just a short time. I was going to go today, but it is just way too hot and muggy. The day I photographed the trees was perfect! Speak to you soon!

RE: Your cemetery photo
Thank you, Alice! Which loved ones are you specifically referring to? Perhaps Asenath? I am trying to take and upload as many pictures as I can to complete all of the memorials in the cemetery, within the next few months. It is a lovely little cemetery, especially in Spring when the gorgeous pink trees are in bloom!

Nicholas Mundy Sr. and Jr.
I was looking at your posting for Nicholas Mundy Sr. referencing the marker placed by Rev. Ezra Mundy, a 19th century genealogist. "Nicholas Mundy and descendants who settled in New Jersey in 1665" (1907) is a wonderful piece of work, particularly considering when it was done. Although Rev. Ezra acknowledges in it that there will be errors in it and bemoans the fact that cousins haven't responded to his letters (true then as now), he made one whooper of an error right in the beginning: he confused Nicholas Mundy, Sr. with his son Nicholas Mundy, Jr. who was married to Hopestill Hull, daughter of Hopewell Hull and granddaughter of the Rev. Joseph Hull. It is Nicholas, Jr. who died in 1734 and it is his will citing wife Hope and 12 children in 1734 including my ancestor Hopewell Mundy.

I do not know when Nicholas Sr. died but he was alive in September 1695 when he was deeding land to his son Nicholas.

I think he was the son of the William Mundy who is in early records as immigrating to "Virginia" in the 1630s but who is also in early records in Massachusetts from where the Mundys in 1665. Many forget that in the early 17th century all of the east coast was "Virginia."

I heard the office mention there were 25 people buried in there; I have no names. I think you would do well calling/writing the office and requesting the information.

Alice, there is a photo of his monument on his memorial which is in Woodlawn cemetery. Based on that I would expect that he's buried there.
