Hillcrest Cemetery Photo - Cloquet
I talked with the Cemetery Superintendent of the Hillcrest Cemetery in Cloquet, MN. He says that there are actually 2 cemeteries there....West Hillcrest and East Hillcrest. He takes care of both as well as the Maple Grove Cemetery. I am trying to make the corrections to get people in the right places (east and west). He gave me a complete list of the West cemetery and I am very slowly getting them entered. I added a cemetery called "Hillcrest West" to Find a Grave. I am wondering if you could delete your picture of the cemetery entrance from the "Hillcrest Cemetery" and repost it on the "Hillcrest West" cemetery. I am going to see if Find a Grave can eventually change the name of the "Hillcrest Cemetery" to "East Hillcrest Cemetery". This is going to be a slow process, but it is underway! Thanks!

Johanna Mathilda And Streed
Dear Carl,
Would you, by any chance remember, from when you took the photograph of Johanna's husband's gravestone, Nils Emil Streed, if his wife Johanna was on another side of the stone, and a son also?

If so, would you be so kind as to photograph their sides of the gravestone, too?

Thank you for being a Find A Grave photo volunteer and taking the time out of your schedule to help others. I appreciate it.

Hi! We spoke before. Would you mind emailing me at so we can compare notes again. Our tree seems to have 2 Margarets that we can't sort out. Another conversation may help this line.

RE: South Elmdale Church Cemetery
Hi Carl,

I usually enter memorials at FindAGrave for my ancestors, because I've been to that cemetery and I know they are buried there.

I did not see the inscriptions for the Morrison County Historical Society and I did not see Bob Clear's map.

Hi Carl,

Usually I only enter the memorials of my ancestors. Since I am very busy with my family genealogy, I would not be able to take photos and enter the remaining memorials of those in South Elmdale Cemetery.

Thanks, Sheila S

RE: Johnson
Hi Carl,

I won't get up there until next spring, my mom has a lake cottage nearby. I don't clean stones for fear of damaging them, but I will take a real close look at this one and see if better lighting will verify the year of birth - could be 1891 or 97. Might have got that wrong. Death date is certain. I did not see a name, but again I'll look real close and not the nearby Johnson grave(s) too. I intend to get to the courthouse sometime to look at their death records, that's another way to see who this is and may give the birth info as well.

Thanks for all your work in the area, I have run across your name several times.

Robert was my father. Wanda was not his first wife. My mother Esther G. Pond Riemcke was his first wife. Wanda was his second wife. Please correct.

RE: Community Country Church
Yes, I believe the Community Country Church located in Holdingford, MN is active. The building appears to be newer.

Like I said before, I believe the Community Country Church in charge of the old South Elmdale Church (not active?), which is next to the South Church Cemetery. Because the sign now says Community Country Church on it. It's possible they may use this old church for special occasions.

The only way to know for sure is to call the Community Country Church and ask them if the old South Elmdale Church is still active and if they are in charge of South Elmdale Cemetery as well.

Thanks, Sheila

Farmers and Miners
Guy Frank's birthdate
Hi Carl,

One of my relatives was married to Guy Frank - Sarah Frank is buried at Forest Lawn in Maplewood - so I had ordered his death certificate and added his birthdate from that certificate as a suggested edit.

RE: South Elmdale Church Cemetery

It's possible that the South Elmdale Congregational Church, was once called Slavonic Congregational Church. The sign on the location where the church is says Community Country Church but, I do not believe the South Elmdale Congregational Church is running.

It's possible that the Community Country Church (42457 171st St, PO Box 37, Holdingford, MN 56340 Phone:(320) 746-0005) is in charge of the former church and just has their name listed on the sign.

All recent obituaries have South Elmdale Cemetery listed as the burial location.

If you feel this cemetery name needs an aka you can contact them.

RE: South Elmdale Cemetery
Hi Carl,

What I know about this church is that my great great Uncle & Aunt - Joseph & Minnie Heisick were staunch members of this church & their names are engraved in granite on a post at the entrance to the church.

My mother is also from Upsala, MN which is near this church. Her entire family said this this church was called South Elmdale Congregational Church. It has a new name now - Community Country Church. I changed my caption to Community Country Church formerly South Elmdale Congregational Church.

There is no cemetery name listed at the cemetery itself. It is located next to Community Country Church.

That's all I know, sorry.

Thanks, Sheila S

Margaret Boody
BTW, do you happen to know the date of the marriage?

Added by Momstore on Apr 24, 2015 3:19 PM

Margaret Boody
thanks. I have no doubt that Margaret Boody married Mr Goodrich, but her parents and siblings are incorrect. I need to figure out which margaret she is. There was another unrelated group that settled in Lenawee, Michigan and I believe that group went to Minnesota. If Margaret is in my line, I would like to get her connected to the correct group. Thanks again for your helps!

Nils Hoffstedt

I'm sure you are some relative to Nils. So I want to let you know that I added a photo of him to his memorial.

The caption contains a link to his naturalization papers, although since you knew the exact towns of birth for Nils and his wife, maybe you have seen the papers before.

I have no connection to Nils, I just find things online and pass them on :)
