Ira Thomas Roper
Researchers:
I do not believe that Ira Thomas Roper (1851-1889) is the son of this Charles Roper (1815-1883) and his first wife Elizabeth Murphree (1823-1860).

Ira is not found on any census with these individuals.

He is found on the census records with Charles W Roper (1821-1855) and his wife Abigail Malinda Reid (1816-1886).
He is seen in the 1860 Census as Ira T Roper (age 9) with his mother Malinda (34). His father was deceased by this time. His brother Sterling (shown as Starlin H) agedd 5 is also shown in the household.

He is shown in the 1870 Census again with the same household members.

Hopefully this correction will be made for those who are not as adept at spotting discrepencies and take the information shown at face value without documenting it

121294692 and 28910887 should be combined. It's very confusing for contributors. Just a suggestion. Thanks and best regards, Deborah

Betty's memorial

I finished writing it. I'll probably tweak and polish a little but it's pretty much done.

RE: Ewing?
Forwarded your messge to my cousin and she says that it looked a lot better in the area when she went so she thinks someone went in and cleaned it up some but it could probably still need a little more clearing from what I could see of her pictures. You know, it doesn't look anything like a true cemetery, grass a little tall, trees everywhere, so on.

RE: Ewing?
I don't know exactly how bad it was when you took your pictures but a cousin sent me some pictures she took recently and it looked pretty dense. I could send a picture or two? I don't know if you know it or not but there are supposed to be more graves in the area. My cousin is planning on going back in the fall or early winter to see if she could find them. I can also put you in touch with her if you would like, she posted the pictures for the Pharr graves I believe in the cemetery. I have a suggestion for you, when you go to a cemetery take a piece of chalk with you for the really hard to read tombstones and lightly rub the chalk over the memorial. I've seen some where people do it heavily and it looks really horrible because the chalk is in the grooves also but lightly will help bring out what is on the stone. You still may not get a good picture of the tombstone but you should be able to at least read it easier and transcribe the information. I go to the cemeteries in my area when I can to fill a request and always take chalk with me. Thanks once again for going to that cemetery, I know it's really hard to find, I've been there myself and tried to find that part of the cemetery but never did find it.;-)

Ewing?
I came across your pictures of the Old Ewing Cemetery and was wondering if you are a descendant? The reason I ask is that I have been told the cemetery is very difficult to find. I tried to find it several years ago and was unsuccessful. Did you know there is supposed to be a grave there for Hannah Whaley Ewing? Supposedly, it's so weather damaged that it can't be read. You may think of taking a piece of chalk with you when you read tombstones and lightly rub the markers you can't read with it. Supposedly, it will help make the markers readable.

Pamela Reid
Bradley Memorials
I am very happy to transfer these memorials to you. I put Daniel Morgan Cemetery online from a survey that I had. About 700 or so memorials were online for Daniel Morgan but the survey had another 750 or so that did not have memorials. I was adding my Smith family and decided the right thing to do was to add all of the burials I had, hoping family members would come along and ask for them to be transferred. I had no way of knowing, in most cases, who should be linked to who. I am delighted that you are taking these and that you will add information and link them to their other relatives.

Daniel Morgan Cemetery and Cowpens Cemetery are next to one another in Cowpens and it is very hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. I strongly believe that many of the burials in Daniel Morgan should actually be Cowpens Cemetery. It is the older of the two and many of the memorials I put online from the survey predate the opening of Daniel Morgan in the mid 1950s. I don't live in South Carolina or I would go and redo the surveys myself. I have asked the genealogical society there to help with this and maybe they will. It would great to get that straightened out.

I was able to get the photo's of Charles & Julia for you today. I have some Willoughby's in my ancestry. Was wondering if our lines crossed. My ancestor is Lucy Willoughby married Jones. I'd have to check my records for further info, but would love to compare notes with you!
