RE: Leavenworth
Hi there, thanks for responding. Absolutely the best thing you could do for Leavenworth National Cemetery is to periodically request photos of graves that don't yet have photos. Each week Find A Grave allows one to make 20 photo requests. Your requests would help the volunteer photographers know which graves still need to be shot. Your thoughts? Mary Ann

That would be wonderful! Thank you for offering to do that for me. I live in California and so consequently it would be tough for me to do a visual search. Thank you so much!

RE: Mount Washington Cemetery, Missouri
Thanks for the history lesson on this Cemetery. Quite interesting.
It is sad that the current owners are so particular about people visiting the graves of their families. Sounds to me they are not very helpful to those seeking.
There is a Cemetery here that has a map marking each grave and the cemetery location of each. I believe there is another one that offers an on-line location map.
Maybe the owners of Mount Washington should consider something like that to assist the families of those buried at Mount Washington.
At least it appears someone has been able to contribute the graves to this site. Although, that does not make up for those wanting to visit the graves of their loved ones.
Again, thanks for the history.

Mount Washington Cemetery, Missouri
Strangely, I was looking something up I'd just seen on Death Valley Days. I discovered Ranger Burton Mossman is buried at Washington Cemetery and noticed your comment that the stone marker for the cemetery had been destroyed and replaced. I looked it up and, though I could find no history on the cemetery, I did see where the sign has indeed been removed and replaced. Not only that but this particular entrance has been closed and the cemetery is open only for certain days and hours.
There were also a few comments on the site I found, one stated the cemetery is in bad disarray.
Do you know if this has at any time been a public cemetery or always been private? Unfortunately, I know of many cemeteries in awful disarray because there is no one to care for them. It is a real shame for this to happen.
By the way, I agree that the original stone marker at the entrance was magnificent and glad those with folks buried there have your picture as a reminder of that beautiful stone.

Mount Washington
SMG: I was just out at the cemetery, they've removed that beautiful stone sign (picture you posted on Find-A-Grave) at the entrance off Truman Road. They have two ugly signs on either side of the drive now. When will they learn "new" isn't always better. (Sept 2008)

GBern.O: I know SMG, I always liked that majestic stone from way back. Mt Washington certainly has had its share of problems in the recent past. I have an aunt, (loved her dearly), there. Mary F Foster 1920-1976

SMG: Unfortunately, my very first memorial was for a grandson who is buried at Mt Washington. I found this site looking for some way to vent my grief. Mt Washington is such a beautiful's sad they have so many problems. The entrance from Truman Rd, where the stone sign used to be, is permanently closed now. Because of the security issues, the only way in (by car) is past the office. As if. Oh well, the stone lives on via Find A Grave.

Memorial for Robert Osborn
Dear GBern.O,

I just received a note from that you are now sponsoring the memorial for Robert and wanted to send you this note of appreciation for your lovely gesture.

I just reread the obituary and believe that you are perhaps Robert's father. If that is correct, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your son. I was also wondering if you would like me to transfer management of Robert's memorial to you.

God bless,
