RE: PVT J. Chancery
I did more research on him. His name is Pvt. John Chancey Co. G, 16th MS. Infantry. He died in General Hospital No. 18, Richmond, Va. May 23, 1863 from Pneumonia. I updated his memorial to show that. Was Jefferson Chancey in the same unit? I looked for records and found no records of a Jefferson Chancey in MS. I did find a Jefferson Chancey in the 1st Alabama and he survived the war. Do you know what unit your Chancey served in? I be glad to help and see if I can find him. My sources come from and

RE: Chancey
Hi Sherline. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. As I'm sure you know, there are many spellings or misspellings of the Chancey name. Email me at with more information and I'll see what I have or can dig up. :-)

Sorry no headstone. They only have small stone markers with numbers on them. I will add a picture of the section he is buried in. Do you have information on him his first name. I volunteer for the cemetery there and we are trying to get all the correct names of the soldiers. Chancery is one we have no information on.

RE: Chancey
Hi Sherline,
I'm not sure if I have anyone from Clarke Cty - I'm having a senior moment here :-) but if you go to and search for me, you'll find my tree with all the information on chancey's that I have. If you can't find it that way, then email me at and I'll send you an invitation to my tree which should fix it so you can see everything. You may have to create an account with Ancestry (if you don't have one already); it's free, you don't have to pay.

your distant cousin,

Lovina Chapman
I have a photo of a Lovina Chapman. On the back is written in ink: "From Mrs. Lovina Chapman Age 84 Yrs 11 Months Xmas 1915" In pencil with a different hand is "Grandfather Hapgood's Aunt" If this sounds like family, please contact me at:

Hi, Sherline
I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about Lavinia or her family or ancestry. I sometimes go to the non-famous graves and pick a name or cemetery at random. I believe I picked her because she has such a pretty first name.

I do know that one beautiful day we will all be together forever, and I'll be looking forward to meeting Lavinia and your family.

Take Care,

Mary :)
