James Ashley Cobb was my great-great grandfather. I'm descended from his daughter, Hattie Cobb. Both my grandfather (Hattie's son) and my father (Hattie's grandson) were named after him. Their names were Ashley Cobb Speir, Sr., and Ashley Cobb Speir, Jr. Both have passed away.

My dad left North Carolina when he grew up and wound up settling in the Washington, D.C. area. I grew up there and moved to Seattle 16 years ago. I have one daughter, Naomi.
