A 24-year-old female born and raised in Georgia, I'm ever so fortunate and blessed to have a mother who's exposed me to the works of people old and new in film, television, and music. While I love and often watch such actors as Katherine Hepburn and William Powell astound us with their acting ability on screen, I also like seeing such present-day films as "You've Got Mail" (which, by the way, is a modernization of the 1940 film "The Shop Around the Corner" starring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan) and "The Matrix." The same goes for music. While I adore listening to the powerful voice of Judy Garland and the enthralling guitar-strumming of Jimi Hendrix, I also love the musical works of Dream Theater and Dave Matthews Band. My tastes in such forms of art span a wide range of various genres and time periods. Although I may like certain things that are deemed "popular," I don't like them simply because many other people do. As Paul Newman said in the hockey comedy "Slap Shot," "He don't run with the traffic."
