"Oneonta Daily Star" Former City Alderman, Assessor Dies

Luman B. Green, formerly of 7 Watkins Avenue, for several terms Second Ward Alderman and formerly a member of Oneonta's Board of Assessors, died June 12 at Jobmann Nursing Home, Worcester, where he had been a patient since June 8, 1964.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Bookhout Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward M. English, director of Wesley House, Oneonta, officiating. Burial will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Mr. Green was born August 10, 1875 at Otsdawa a son of Wheeler and Selina Brownson. He married Harriet Coe Hughson in 1908 at Oneonta. Mrs. Green died in June 1944.

Mr. Green came to Oneonta in 1911 and for several years was engaged in the coal business with Luman Brownson and later opened Green's Garage in downtown Oneonta.

He served several terms as alderman from the Second Ward and was also Oneonta City assessor. Following the death of Mrs. Green, he moved to Florida, returning to Oneonta in January 1964.

A prominent Methodist Layman, he was a member of the Springfield Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., while he resided in Florida. On his return to Oneonta, he was a member of First Methodist church until his death.

Surviving are a step-son, Thomas P. Hughson, 26 State Street, a daughter, Mrs. Dayton Babcock, East Worcester; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience.
