Doran was a lifetime member of the NRA and Evergreen Gun Club, and a member of Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, Bigelow House Preservation Association and Antique Studebaker Club, and was a board member of the Northeast Neighborhood Association for many years.
He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, photography, traveling and anything else he could do out of doors, square dancing, genealogy, and socializing. His favorite vacations were trips to the ocean with his wife, and anywhere he could view wild animals. He always looked forward to his annual hunting and fishing trips with his buddies. Doran also enjoyed spending time with his family and large extended family, especially at family potluck picnics.
Doran was an expert handyman: if it was broken, he could and would fix it. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He had a wonderfully twisted sense of humor that never ceased to delight his audience. He was usually spotted wearing his characteristic smirk as he waited for his joke of the hour to sink in. Doran continued to be humorous until the end.
Doran is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hougham of Olympia; son, Doran Paul Hougham and wife April of Shelton, Washington; daughter, Deena Hougham and husband Andrew Melczer of Renton, Washington; grandchildren, Cristal Wallace and Evan Hougham; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Hougham; sisters, Ellen Keller, Theda Richards, and Gerry Gentile.
