Ernest W. Bowser, 66, of Huey, died at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002, in the intensive care unit of Clarion Hospital following a short illness. Born June 26, 1935, in Huey, he was a son of Clinton F. and Floda Mae (Bobbert) Bowser.
Mr. Bowser was a coal miner for many years. For the past two years, he served as a Pennsylvania state constable for Toby Township, Clarion County. He also worked part time for Toby Township maintenance. Mr. Bowser was affiliated with the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy near Rimersburg. He was a member of the Rimersburg VFW Post No. 7132. Mr. Bowser enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.
He married the former Catherine O. "Kate" Aites on September 19, 1964. She survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, Steven and Kristin Bowser of Shippenville; two grandchildren, Brandon Bowser and Brooke Bowser; two sisters, Garnet Van Dyke and her husband, William, of Boyers and Janet Fair and her husband, James, of Parker; and four brothers, Junior Bowser of Kittanning, Foster Bowser and Henry Bowser, both of Rimersburg, and Dewey Bowser of Smithton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowser was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Bowser on December 24, 1999; a sister, Geraldine George; an infant brother; and three infant sisters.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 1002, at the funeral home with the Rev. Leonard Goughler, pastor of the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarview Memorial Park near Strattonville. The family suggests memorials be made to the New Athens Church of Prophecy, Route 68, Rimersburg, PA 16248.
