Ruth Crooker was the daughter of Jonathan Crooker and Sarah Allen. She was born ca. 1727 in Pembroke, Plymouth, Massachusetts. She was about fifteen and Recompense Magoun was twenty-six when they married on July 20, 1742, in Pembroke.

They had five sons and six daughters:
