Graveside rites will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg with Sonya Williams-Giersch, A.I.M. officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77, Strasburg.
In Sam's honor the flag will fly at half mast at Front Royal-Warren County Airport for the next three days.
He was born May 20, 1918 in Strasburg, the son of the late Samuel Leo Burgess, Sr. and Elizabeth Armentrout Burgess. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg and Front Royal Kiwanis Club. He served in the United States Air Force and was an aviation consultant writer. He was a graduate of Strasburg High School, Massanutten Military Academy, Lynchburg College and The Spartan School of Airport Management, Tulsa, OK.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Front Royal Kiwanis Club.
