Three other children claim Charlie: Ralph Leroy, Grace and Judi, all living in 2012.
Charlie's father was a blacksmith who foresaw the impact of the automobile, and insisted his sons learn to work on them, and learn trades related to them. Charlie chose to become a welder, and created many wrought iron pieces to grace the homes in Northern California.
Charlie and his wife lived in Farmington until about 1936, when the moved to Albuquerque, and in 1941 on to Redwood City, California, near his sister Rose Sarah (Cronin) Marzlin. In 1945, their sister Nellie Esther (Cronin) Ivie joined them for a number of years.
Woodworking became a hobby: he created furniture and inlaid wood lamps that are treasured by his family.
Terribly burned in an industrial fire in 1951, he went to work for Goodwill Industries, in San Jose, CA., and managed the wood furniture department teaching others to clean or make repairs to items that came through the shop.
