Death at the Hospital At Rochester, Minn., Following Second Operation for Appendicitis:
The news of the death of Roy Ackerman at Rochester, Minn, Saturday night was received here Sunday and the remains arrived home today accompanied by his wife and by Chester Hart, who were with the patient since his departure for Rochester about two weeks ago, and during his sickness there. The news of his death was expected, from letters received from the hospital since Roy arrived there. About four years ago he had the first operation for that disease, but the result was not as successful as hoped for and this winter, in lifting at his work, he probably strained himself, or at least it became necessary to again seek the aid of the surgeon. It was found that there was little hope for the patient from the time he was examined by the doctors. An abscess had been formed and gall stones had also developed.
A short time ago, his aged father died at the home of his son south of Spiritwood, but the news of this had been withheld from Roy, who died in ignorance of the fact that his father had died a few days previously.
The deceased was well known in the city and county. He was born in Randolph, Columbus Co., Wis., and was 43 years of age. He leaves a family consisting of wife and four children, three girls and one boy, the youngest four years old. For many years the deceased had been an efficient salesman for Churchill, Webster and Bolinger. When he first came to the county he engaged in farming. This was 25 years ago.
The funeral was held from the Congregational church, Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., burial in Highland Home Cemetery. Deceased was a member of the Workman order.
The funeral of Leroy Ackerman was held at the Congregational church this afternoon, the church being crowded to its utmost capacity by the friends of the family and deceased. There were many tributes of flowers, both from the friends and from the Workmen order. Rev. Phillips preached the discourse. The pallbearers were: A.W. Dewey, Fred Smith, E. Neuman, Chris Fleutsch, Ward Cook, and John Goodman. Burial was at the Highland Home Cemetery.
