Mst. Sgt. Michael J. Barnes, 40 CAMP PENDLETON -- Mst. Sgt. Michael J. Barnes passed away August 29th, 2012. Michael was a graduate of Hernando High and entered the U.S. Marine Corps immediately following his high school graduation. He has proudly served in the Marines for 22 years, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant and having served in Somalia, East Timor and three times deployed to Iraq. Michael was an avid soccer fan having played soccer himself, coached various teams and ages and even became a referee. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Jennifer of Ridge Manor; three children, Alexis, Matthew and Elizabeth; his parents, Michael and Janelle Barnes of Brooksville, Fla.; sisters, Sheri Halloway of Las Vegas, Nev., Kristina Stone and Laura Barnes, both of Brooksville; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Carolyn Upton- Rowley of Murrieta, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Bette Joiner of Brooksville; paternal grandmother, Eleanor Barnes of Joliet, Ill.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. A Gathering will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 6-8 p.m. at the Brooksville Chapel, 1190 S. Broad St., Brooksville, FL. 34601. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 8th at 10 a.m., Brooksville Chapel with interment at Brooksville Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jennifer Barnes Family, 6464 Madonna Dr., Webster, FL. 33597.
