Andrew Clinesmith was born in Mifflinburg, Pa in 1805 to John Baltzer Clinesmith, Jr. and Margaret Smith. He married Margaret Miller about 1830 in Holmes Co., Ohio. They had four known children: Oliver, Wiley, Elisa Jane, and Mariah L. all born in Holmes. In 1855 the family settled in Maynes Grove, Iowa - eventually moving to Morgan Township where he bought land in Popejoy Iowa.
