Sara Abercrombie Blanton, 98, of Woodruff, born August 13, 1913, in Gray Court, SC, to Lewis Henry and Ella Bess Robertson Abercrombie, died Saturday, June 9, 2012.
She was graduated from Gray Court Owings High School. Sara was a member of Emma Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Woodruff for 80 years where she took an active role in all church functions. She was a charter member of "The Joy Club" at Emma Gray. She also belonged to the "Golden Age Club" at the First Baptist Church of Woodruff. She worked in retail sales for Rebecca Wright and C.G. Edwards for many years.
The widow of George Marchant Blanton, she is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Charles) DeRieux of Laurens, Margaret Thomas of California; one sister, Eugenia Bedsole of Laurens; two grandsons, Roland (Tammy) DeRieux of Montana, George (Wing-Sy) DeRieux of California; a great grandson, Gabriel DeRieux, and a great granddaughter, Kendel DeRieux both of Montana. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dewitt, John and George Abercrombie and her sisters Mary Henderson and Harriett Andrews.
Graveside services: 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2012 at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Woodruff.
