June 27, 1989:

George W. "Bill" Griggs, age 72, of Fulton, Missouri died Tuesday, June 27, 1989 at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Mr. Griggs was born October 21, 1916, in Hatton, Missouri, the son of John and Ethel (Foutz) Griggs. He was married October 19, 1940 to Helen M. Poe and she survives at the home.

Other survivors include one son, Johnnie Griggs of Columbia, Missouri; one grandson, Ian Griggs a student at Westminister College in Fulton, Missouri;, three sisters, Mrs. Ila Crocket of Stephens, Missouri; Mrs. Ida Adair of Columbia, Missouri and Mrs. Lescoe Long of Millersburg, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by one brother.

Mr. Griggs retired in 1979 from Harbison-Walker Refractories after twenty-three years of service. He was a member of the Court Street United Methodist Church of Fulton.

Funeral services for Mr. Griggs will be conducted by the Reverend Peter Soens at 11am Friday, June 30, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. Visitation will be from 7-8pm today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Court Street Methodist Church.
