Velma L. Anders, 84, of Montpelier, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2004, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, Montpelier, following a lingering illness. Born June 28, 1920, near Britton, Mich., to Helen (Gottschalk) and Paul Otto Marten, she married Paul J. Anders on Nov. 4, 1939, and he survives. A Montpelier resident since 1948, she was a homemaker. She had retired in 1980 after 31 years as a floral designer with both Kindler's Flowers and Rozells Flower Shop in Montpelier. A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Montpelier, she had been an active volunteer for her church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Angie) Cryer of Montpelier and Mrs. Rick (Lois) Baughman of Montpelier; four granddaughters, Mrs. Tom (Lynne) Schaedler of Camden, Mich., Mrs. Dean (Lisa) Gericke of Brighton, Mich., Mrs. Todd (Stephanie) Friend of Montpelier, and Mrs. A.J. (Melissa) Saneholtz of Montpelier; four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Schaedler and Mara and Kyle Gericke; and a great-great-grandson, Brock Schaedler. She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, and a granddaughter, Jenny Baughman.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Marlene L. LaChat to officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio.
