Born in Bridgewater, Va., he was a son of the late Paul R. and Virginia Van Lear Diehl.
He was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, the Antietam Exchange Club, American Legion Morris Frock Post No. 42 Fraternal Order of Eagles of Hagerstown. He owned and operated the Byrds Auto Sales of Hagerstown and was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary F. Taylor Diehl: two sons. Richard Diehl and Robin Diehl, both of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Kathy Diehl of Baltimore, Md.: one stepdaughter, Brenda Jean Wilt at home: three brothers, Donald V. Diehl of Williamsport, Francis L. Diehl of Cincinnati, Ohio,and Russell C. Diehl of Baltimore, Md.: and one sister, Mrs. Polly Lucas of Tacoma Park. Md.
Services will be held at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. on Saturday at 10 30 a.m. The Rev. Edward E. Heydt will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, Md.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9.
