Birth: 1860
Marieville
Monteregie Region
Quebec, Canada
Death: Jan. 7, 1897
Mason County
Michigan, USA

Napoleon Ponton is of French Canadian descent. It is believed he was born in the small village of Marieville, which is a little east of Montreal and straight north of St. Albans, Vermont.

The 1861 Census of Canada for Marieville, County Rouville, Quebec Canada, on page 20, enumerates Napoleon's family.
- Prospere Ponton, age 23, forgeron (blacksmith)
- Elmire Desroches, age 24
- Napoleon Ponton, age 2

On November 2, 1886, in Ludington, Mason county, Michigan, Napoleon married Emelie Mildred Baker, a daughter of Andrew Baker and Rebecca Slate (or Sleight-?). Emelie had two nicknames, Millie and Lillian. Together they had four children: Maria Mina, Charles Napoleon, Prosper Andrew, and Clarence Joseph.

County land records in Mason county, Michigan, indicate Napoleon made two purchases of land (1889 and 1892), both in Branch township, in sections 23 and 26.

Napoleon and Millie's 10-year marriage ended abrubtly with Napoleon's unexpected sudden death at age 36. His death record says he died in Logan township.
