Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, May 9, 2010:

Wilbur Jack Provin, 82, of Columbia passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, at The Bluffs after a long illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service time Monday.

Born Nov. 22, 1927, to Earl and Eva Shaw Provin in Harrison County, Jack had four brothers and two sisters while growing up on a farm.

After graduating from Ridgeway High School, Jack joined the United States Army. After being discharged from Fort Knox, Ky., he entered the University of Missouri.

Jack married Lois McQuerry in 1949 in St. Joseph, where they lived and worked until they returned to Columbia and Jack resumed school. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and began working for the USDA where he remained until retirement in 1986.

Following retirement, Jack remained busy with community service and enjoyed time on his farm in Harrison County. In addition to being an active member of Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church, he was a proud 50-year member of The Sunrise Optimist Club, a member of IOOF and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the DAV. Jack held offices including state president of NARFE organization, and was active at OAK.

Jack was always ready with a helping hand. He also used any excuse to get back to his farm, where he was surrounded with family and lifetime friends. Jack was a fan of all University of Missouri athletics.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Moni Lentz and husband, Larry, and Michael Provin, Michelle Provin and Marty Provin and wife, Nancy; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter and Ronald Provin; a sister, Peggy Thiebert; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Frances Ladean Flint; and brothers Horace Ray and Herman.

Memorial contributions can be made to Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church, 702 Wilkes Blvd., Columbia, Mo., 65201.
