Mary Louise Carpenter, a well-known music teacher in the Syracuse area, died Monday. She was a graduate of Nottingham High School and Syracuse University, where she received a degree in Fine Arts - Music. She belonged to Sigma Kappa sorority and Sigma Alpha Iota, a national professional honorary of musicians, and was a member of the Central New York Music Teacher Association. Mrs. Carpenter, as she was known to hundreds of students, taught music at Belleville Academy, and in Baldwinsville, NY, as well as the Westhill School district. In addition, she taught private piano lessons in her home throughout her career. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Stanton Carpenter. Surviving: are a son John (Jill) Carpenter of Morrisville, a daughter, Nancy ( Randy) Cook of Leesburg, VA and grandson, David Carpenter. Services: 5 p.m. Friday at the Robinson Memorial Church. Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. prior to services at the church, 126 Terry Road in Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Syracuse Humane Association. Greenleaf Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
