Slim attended elementary school on the ridge and Graduated Harrisville High School. He was a member of Hardman Chapel. He joined the Navy in 1940, where he served as Chief Petty Officer Radioman and was in several invasions during WW II. After six years he was honorably discharged from the Navy. He retired from Allegheny Power after thirty years of service and was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served in many positions.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Betty M. Hardman whom he married on July 20, 1946; daughter Lorna Boso (David) of Sherman, WV; two sons William C. Hardman (Sheila) of Washington, WV and Randall M. Hardman (Brenda) of New Martinsville, WV; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two brothers Gilbert Hardman of Parkersburg and Leroy Hardman of Charleston, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Ireta Westfall, Lila Stephens, and Oletta Heater; and two brothers Lawrence and Cleston Hardman.
Services will be Saturday 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Vernick officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
