He was the son of Lewis William Adkins and Edith Florence Pope.

He proudly served his country in US Army during World War II.

He was a member of Melson's United Methodist Church. He was also a member Delmar Masonic Lodge 201, on the Preservation Trust of Wicomico County and the Bi State Ruritans Club. He served on several committees in the reference to Delmar history and was considered a historian with his knowledge on the town. He was instrumental in the renovation of the Hertiage Musuem in Delmar.

He worked as a senior salesman for Ralston Purina.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Margaret A Adkins, who died in 2003; and a sister, Shirley Brown. He is survived by a son, a daughter, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a sister.
