MORNING TRIBUNE - 16 January 1958:
Andrew Stellmon, age 84, died at Tri-State Memorial Hospital at Clarkston yesterday morning.
He had been in failing health for two years and had suffered a minor stroke at Christmas time. After that he grew steadily weaker and was taken to the hospital Tuesday night. He went into a coma at 3 yesterday morning and died four hours later.
He had been a resident of Clarkston since moving here in 1951 from the family farm
on Nez Perce Prairie, where he was a pioneer farmer.
After his marriage the couple departed west- ward on a honeymoon trip that brought them to Nez Perce prairie on Oct 15, 1901. There Jacob joined his older brothers in a farming and cattle raising venture, and later staked
out a homestead of his own and proved it.
Throughout his years on the prairie he took an active part in the area's development. He was instrumental in bringing railway service to the prairie early in the century and served many terms on school boards. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge of Nez Perce.
As his children grew, the family became a tightly knit one. Years later, the children
could remember the family packing up after a laborious harvest; "Play hard when you play, work hard when you work," Andrew Stellmon used to say. He also taught his children to "Never pick a fight, but if necessary stand up for what is right, then fight" and to "give every man his just dues".
Interment in Normal Hill Cemetery.
