Joseph A. "Joe" Dahmus, 56, Dickinson died Monday, July 13 at MedCenter One, Bismarck following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Joe's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m., Friday, July 17 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Joseph A. Dahmus was born June 22, 1953 in Dickinson the son of Rudolph and Catherine M. (Engel) Dahmus. He was raised and educated in Regent, having graduated from Regent High School in 1971. He went on to North Dakota State University Bottineau of Forestry in 1972. From 1974 to 1977 he served in the Peace Corps in Quito, Ecuador where he worked with the residents, introducing new crops and improving agricultural methods.
Joe returned to Dickinson where he went to work with his brothers in the construction business and together have built many homes in the area. He was known for his fine workmanship.
Joe married Caren Wiege on Feb. 11, 1982 in Dickinson. He was a dedicated father, and an honest and kindhearted man who was much loved by all who met him. He enjoyed traveling, many outdoor and sporting activities with his children.
Joe is survived by three children, Kris (Brandi) Wiege, Coon Rapids, Minn., Daniel Dahmus, Dickinson and Kali Dahmus, Dickinson; two grandchildren, Jaida and Averi Wiege; five siblings, Al (Sharon) Dahmus, Dickinson, Mary "Sr. Grace" Dahmus, Bismarck, Rita Christina, Phoenix, Agnes (Dave) Haas, Dickinson and Henry (Bonnie) Dahmus, New England; a sister-in-law, Shirley Dahmus, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Bob) Procive; and his brother, Paul Dahmus.
