John Robert Sealock, son of Daniel and Mary Brook (McConahay) Sealock, was born in Wayne Co., IN, 2 Jan 1830 and was twin to Rebecca Elizabeth (Kirlin) He married Elizabeth Stauffer, daughter of Jacob and Hannah (Hine) Stauffer, 9 Oct 1855, in Wayne Co., IN. Soon after their marriage, they moved to North Judson, Starke Co., IN to work for Isaac Lamb, a cranberry merchant. All of their children were born in this area. John Robert Sealock enlisted in Co. E, 58th Indiana Reg't. at the outbreak of the Civil War and survived the war. On March 1, 1884, the family loaded everything they owned, including livestock, on a train and moved to Kansas, leaving their oldest child, Hannah Mary Bell Sealock, a schoolteacher, behind. The male children rode in the cattle cars to take care of the cattle. In Kansas, they settled in Harvey County, just north of the town of Sedgwick. On the 8th of Nov 1892, John Robert purchased a total of 86 acres of land just north of the Little Arkansas River from Robert and Mary Field. A few years later, due to failing health, he and his family moved into Sedgwick, where he died 26 Jun 1899. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Stephenson Post #255, GAR. He was also a member of Sedgwick Lodge No, 139, AF and AM and Sedgwick Chapter No. 210, OES. At his funeral service, the Masonic rites were observed, after which the remains were laid to rest with Masonic honors at Hillside Cemetery. John Robert Sealock's will, dated 28 May 1897, is recorded in the Harvey Co., Kans. courthouse.
