Funeral services for Mr. Derta "Dusty" Ardoin, 82, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.

Mr. Ardoin, a resident of Opelousas and a native of Mamou, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in Doctors' Hospital of Opelousas. He was a World War II veteran. Mr. Ardoin earned the Good Conduct Medal and the EAMETO Medal. He was involved in these campaigns: Maples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and North American Apennines. Mr. Ardoin worked for the Office of Employment Security - state Department of Labor in Baton Rouge as an appeals referee. Mr. Ardoin was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1048 of Opelousas.

"Dusty," as he was affectionately called by all his friends, was an avid Bouree and poker player. His skills at card playing were widely known throughout South Louisiana.

He was dearly loved by his family and many friends who he made throughout his lifetime. Mr. Ardoin will be sadly missed by all who loved and befriended him.

Survivors include: two daughters-in-law, Lainy Ardoin of Opelousas and Kathy Ardoin of Magnolia, Ark.; one stepson, Chuck Brunet and his wife, Cindy, of Houston, Texas; one son-in-law, Frank Mouton of Opelousas; one sister, Agnes Chaumont of Oberlin; four nephews, Dennis and Daniel Hoffpauir, Richard Ardoin and Anthony Soileau; one niece, Nancy Soileau; seven grandchildren, Michelle Mouton of Mount Vernon, Iowa, Paul Mouton and his wife, Lynn, of Opelousas, Felicia Mouton of Metairie, Julie Mouton of Lafayette, Kimberly Ardoin of New Orleans, SSgt. Jonathan Ardoin of Aviano Air Base, Italy, and Dusty Ardoin of Magnolia, Ark.; and two great-grandchildren, Allyssa and Ross Mouton of Opelousas.

Mr. Ardoin was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ortego Brunet Ardoin; his parents, Dorestan and Marguerite Fontenot Ardoin; one daughter, Bobbie Ardoin Mouton; two sons, Ronnie Ardoin and Steve Ardoin; two sisters, Berna Granger and Lillie Soileau, and one brother, Dewey Ardoin.

Sibille Funeral Home, 2309 George Drive, Opelousas, 948-6523, is in charge of arrangements.
