Thelma was born February 11, 1920 in Ogden, Utah, to Robert Lemuel King and Florence Mae Flint King. She attended Emerson Elementary and O.E. Bell Jr. High School.
Thelma married Lorenzo Dow Young on May 20, 1936. They were later divorced. She married William Hubbard Ashton on February 14, 1953 in Idaho Falls. William preceded her in death on June 3, 1969.
During her working years, Thelma worked at White Star Laundry, for the Idaho Potato Growers, and at District Seven Health Department.
Thelma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery and dancing.
Thelma is survived by her daughters: Jean (William) Meppen, of Idaho Falls, Betty (Richard) Schwabedissen, of Salt Lake City, UT, Patricia (Lynn) Gardner, of Irwin, ID, and Kathy (Bill) Nelson, of Idaho Falls; sons: Garry (Janet, deceased) Young, of Honolulu, HI, and Terry (Tammy) Young, of Virginia Beach, VA; stepdaughters: Monnette (Roy) Reynolds, of Idaho Falls, and Bobi Holm, of Idaho Falls; 41 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Jerry Young; daughter, Bonnie Carter; stepson, Bill Ashton; two brothers, Leon King and Lawrence King; sister, Doris Emmitt; two granddaughters: Jolene Nelson, Christina Carter; grandson, Stephen Meppen; and great-granddaughter, LaNeigha Meppen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
