Mrs. Pallie Layman Clagett, 99, died at the Grayson County War Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night, January 12, at 11 o'clock. She had been ill for several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church here on Friday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Roscoe Tarter, pastor of the church. Burial was at Walnuit Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Tom S. Ellis Funeral Home. Leitchfield Chapter No. 26, O.E.S, had charge of the rites at the grave / Mrs. Clagett had been a member of the Taylor Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 79 years. She taught the S.P.I. Sunday school class at the Methodist Church for 40 years before her health forced her to give up the work. She had served as parliamentarian of the Leitchfield Woman's Club from its beginning in 1928. / Mrs Clagett was the first worthy matron of the Leitchfield O.E.S. chapter and was marshal in the first grand chapter formed in 1903. She became the second grand matron in the state. She attended 47 of the first 48 annual meetings of the grand chapter. Until in the last few years she always took an active interest in all civic affairs and club work. / Born in Grayson County on August 27, 1861, she was the daughter of William and Rebecca Deweese Layman. Her husband, Judge Charles W. Clagett, to whom she was married in 1882, died in 1918. She is survived by one son, Hubert L. Clagett, 71, who has lived with his mother faithfully since the death of his father. He is a retired civil engineer. There are two nieces, Mrs. Kathleen Binford, Castle Rock, Colo., and Mrs Rebecca Baker, Cave City; a nephew, E. W. Self, Cave City; also three foster sons, Dennie Clagett, Northwood, Iowa, and Joe and Will Clagett, addresses unknown.
