Jeremiah is thought to be the son of John Keefe and Hanorah unknown.
Jeremiah, per his daughter, Ellen's death certificate, came to VT from County Cork, Ireland. He married Mary Drislane and they had at least two children before emigrating to America. The 1900 census indicates they had ten children, only 8 of them still living by 1900. Their children include: John Vincent Keefe, Ellen Keefe Savage, Johanna Keefe King, Jeremiah "Jerry" Keefe, Mary "Molly" Keefe, James Keefe, Timothy Keefe and Margaret "Maggie" Keefe who did not marry but who helped raise Johanna's children following Johanna's death.

The 1860 census indicates that he and Ellen were born in Ireland as was their daughter, Ellen (age 11). Johanna (5) and Jerry (3) were born in VT so it appears the family emigrated in the early 1850s. Their eldest son, John Vincent, would have been 13 then and he is not listed as living with the family.

The 1870 census indicates that his right to vote was abridged for some reason other than rebellion or other crime. He died of heart disease at about age 79 and had been a farmer.
