Josephine (Minder)
Clark's family records

After the death of her husband, Josie lived with her daughter Grace, on their family farm. She spent most of her summers at her daughter Mary's home on Cape Cod. Ma.

* A letter written by Josephine's daughter Grace, for her 83rd birthday, 1934.

To Mother Mine
Here's to our dear Mother Josie,
A long and rousing cheer!
We love to help make you cozy
To all of us you are dear.
Here's to the love you brought them
Eighty three years ago,
A little auburn haired Josie,
When the ground was covered with snow.
Here's to that short happy childhood,
At Middlebury, near the mill.
Cheer a mother who saved her baby
From Quasapog's water's chill.
Here's to the Christian ideals
She taught to you from the start,
The grandfather stately and noble
Who helped to do his part.
Here is to your grandmother, treasured
Who gave you a love sincere.
A father from the Rineland
Who held his country dear.
Here's to your Soldier brother,
Who gave to our Country his all.
He's sleeping in the South land,
Awaiting the Master's call.
Here's to your only sister
So sprightly at eighty four
You both mean much to your children.
Grandchildren and great, most a score
Here's to your dear husband, our father
Unseen, yet seemingy near
He worked so courageously for us
Made home and our childhood so dear.
Here's to your dear Charlie, our brother
With Father awaiting us there
Dear Charlie so true and so jolly
They both are away from all care.
Here's to May, your daughter at Yarmouth
Sweet and helpful the Minister's wife.
Her smile is worth more then a fortune
It came with her into this life.
Here's to Arthur, so valient through hardship
You can't keep a good man down,
A wonderful husband and father
You won't find one better in town.
Here's to your great cheerfulness, Mother
It's harder than gold to attain,
We all of us love you and wish you may many more birthdays remain.

It looks like Josephine spent a lot of time with her grandparents, Uri and Betsy Manville, especially after her mother died. She mentions seeing Grandmother Bowers there; she would be Electra (Benham) Manville, Bowers.
