COTTINGTON RITES SET AT STANHOPE
Mrs. S.J. Cottington, 87 , lifelong resident of the Stanhope community, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Hamilton conuty hospital where she had been a patient the past three days. She had been in ill health the past six years.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian church in Stanhope with the Rev. Traverce Harrison officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery at Webster City. The body will lie in state at the Foster Fuernal home until 11 o'clock Wednesday morning when it will be taken to the church.
Serena Jane Kent, daughter of George E. and Margaret Kent was born Juy 4, 1871 on a farm near Stanhope. She received her education in the Stanhope schools.
She was united in marriage Nov. 12 1891, to Sydney J. Cottington, and Mr. and Mrs. Cottington farmed northwest of Stanhope until 1920, when they retired and moved into Stanhope, the family home since.
She was peceded in death by her husband on April 6, 1946; by one son, Justin, who died in infancy; two grandchildren; her parents; three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Cottington is survived by two daughters and three sons: Mrs. Mearl (Honor) Coats of Fort Dodge, Clare Cottington of Boone, Asa Cottington, Stratford; Mrs. Joe (Hope) Engelby, Stratford, and Beryl Cottington of Jewell: 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother, Mrs. L.Q.Quick of Stanhope and Jackson G. Kent of San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. Cottington was an active member of the Christian church at Stanhope and was a deaconess of the church for many years.
Friends so desiring may make memorial contributions the the building fund of Stanhope Chistian Church.
