George was the first child, a son, born to John Barton and Mary Ann (Pate) Spalding. He married Julia A. Wade on 16 May, 1873 in Daviess Co.,In. They had a son, William Lawrence, born on 2 Mar.,1874 in Daviess Co.,In. Then Julia about a year later on 9 Mar.,1875 died at the age of 18y.,11m.,9d. and possiblly in the birth of a second child.

A little over 2 years later, he married Della M. Champlin on 20 Jun.,1877 in Daviess Co.,In. and they had 4 sons and 3 daughters which are all listed here.

The remains of Dr. Spalding were brought here from Idnianapolis last Sunday where he had died the previous while under treatment at a sanitarium and interred at St. Mary's. The deceased was a son of J.B.Spalding, a prominent farmer of Daviess county and before his fatal affliction practiced medicine at Edwardsport.

Note: He was baptizedas George Lawrence on 8 Dec.,1851 at St. Mary's Church, Barr Twp.,Daviess Co.,In.
