Walter Glenn Garner
MURPHYSBORO -- Walter Glenn Garner, 92, passed away at 7:53 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, in Carbondale Rehab and Care Center in Carbondale.
Services for Mr. Garner will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. P.K. Sunny officiating. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 127, VFW Post 7190 and 2605 and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Walter was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Murphysboro, to Peter Cooper Garner and Leona (Clutts) Garner.
Mr. Garner served in the Army-Air Corp during World War II, where he was stationed overseas in North Africa and Italy.
He was a die operator for the former Lustour Corp. in Murphysboro.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7190 in Murphysboro.
Walter married Helen Stevens on Oct. 29, 1949, in Vergennes, and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Dennis Garner and his wife, Cashma Garner, of Murphysboro; and one granddaughter, Ashley Garner.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Glenn Garner; two brothers, Robert Eugene Garner and Leon Garner; one brother in infancy; one sister, Mary Maxine Stanes; and his parents.
The family would like to thank Dr. Blaise, St. Joseph Hospital staff, Carbondale Rehab and Care Nurses and TIP Hospice, especially hospice nurse Kim Stilley, for all their care.
