Born in Hamilton, Monroe County Pennsylvania in 1846 to Conrad & Lydia Arnold. Drafted during the civil war and mustered in at Harrisburg on May 12, 1864, in Charlie Company 184th Pennsylvania volunteer infantry regiment as part of the army of the Potomac under General Meade. This unit fought in battles at Rapidan, Va. May 28-31, Totopotomoy May 28- June 12, Cold Harbor June 12-16, And the siege of Petersburg, Va. June 16, 1864- April 2, 1865. On June 22, 1864 Charlie Company gained major ground on enemy fortifacation at Petersburg. The enemy flanked them killing 52, and taking 115 prisoner, to include the Company Commander and three Lieutenants. Daniel was one of the 115 soldiers captured that day. Transported to the prisoner of war camp in Andersonville, Ga. He is Listed as dying on August 29, 1864. Of the 115 prisoners captured on June 22, 1864 at Petersburg, Va. 67 died in the pow camp At Andersonville. Daniel was only 18 at the time of his death.
