Richard Coburn Troxel, 40, son of August C. "Dutch" and Elva Alice Ritter Troxel, was born Dec. 5, 1964, in Columbia. He died March 6, 2005, at St. Frances Medical Center at Cape Girardeau.
In September 1973, Richard and his brother, Anthony, went to live in the home of Don and Naomi Campbell at Bucyrus due to the illness of their mother.
As a member of the Campbell family, he attended school at Success and Houston.
He struggled with mental and medical illness during his adult life and was a resident of Heritage Hills Residential Care Facility for the last eight years.
He had a strong tenor voice and sang with the high school choir under the direction of Jackie Bullock and participated in state vocal music contests.
He was a member of the Success Baptist Church and as his health permitted attended Patton Church of God at Patton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his sisters, Deborah McEntyre of Vandalia and Shirley Chaney of Pennsylvania; brother, SFC Anthony "Tony" Troxel of Junction City, Kan., who is serving in Iraq; maternal grandmother, Elva Ritter of Peoria, Ill.; foster parents; foster sister, Susan martin of Poplar Bluff; foster brother, Darrel Campbell of Jefferson City; and caregivers, Harold and Sherri Coomer of Patton.
Services are 1 o'clock Friday at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ted Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is 6 to 8 o'clock tonight (Thursday) at the Evans chapel.
