She was the daughter of the late John C. and Miona Hill Hewitt. She was 98. She retired from the Orangeburg County Health Department in 1978. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Orangeburg and the Loyalty Sunday school class.

She was predeceased by sisters Edith H. Cashwell, Nell H. Dempsey and Lula Mae Hewitt; brothers Bennie Hewitt, John Hewitt, Joe Hewitt, Fred Hewitt and Arthur Hewitt and was the widow of Melvin H. Ayers.

Survivors include a daughter, Rozanne Ayers Campbell and husband Dean of Orangeburg; five grandchildren, Mark Campbell and wife Lisa of Lexington, Greg Campbell and wife Cathy of Cordova, Sallie Koon and husband Terry of Chapin, Tara Yongue and husband Brett of Cameron, and Holly Gamble and husband Rob of Lexington; 11 great-grandchildren, Kira and Samuel Campbell of Lexington, Cody and Cole Campbell of Cordova, Rebekah and Zachary Koon of Chapin, Madison and Camden Yongue of Cameron, and Peyton, Brogdon and Luke Gamble of Lexington.
